Fraudulent offers and unspecified clauses

Citibank Visa

I just wanted to let anyone ever thinking about signing with citibank for the teaser rate that they offer not to make the mistake I did. I got the Citibank card in 1995 and had only charged on it selectively for a couple of years. As the interest accumulated, I became overwelmed. Anyway, in November of 1999, we got a letter at the house from someone claiming to be the vice president of the company. It was a deal where we could settle our account for 85% of the current balance. My husband and I , much like anything that I think we all would do, jumped at the offer. We closed his retirement account and paid over 2182.00 in cash at a western union location. Citibank continued to send us bills months after and said that since our card was used after the settlement, we would have to pay for the entire amount and the interest. The settlement letter that we received never mentioned the fact that we had to discard our account. It has been a constant battle with these [people] ever since. I suggest that if you ever are unfortunate to acquire this card, don't attempt to resolve anything with a woman named [removed], who said the vice pres. wouldn't talk to me even though he sent the letter, or a Mr Gutirrez, who is just as unhelpful.
