RE: dental concern

To Whom It May Concern: I want to bring to your attention an event that happened to us that should NEVER happen to anyone. Approximately January 26, 2001, I noticed that a permanent tooth was coming in behind one of my six-year old son’s baby teeth. Being concerned, and on the recommendation of a family member, I called Dr. Densmore’s office for advice. They made an appointment for us at 8:00am on January 29.

The morning we arrived at the Dentists office I needed to fill out some forms because we were new patients, meanwhile Dr. Densmore called my son. I told Dr. Densmore that I wanted to go with my son for the consult. The receptionist quickly replied that Dr. Densmore would call me into the exam room before he did anything. At that point I continued to fill out the rest of the forms.

About 10 minutes later we noticed that the Doctor was standing behind the front desk. Once we had eye contact with Dr. Densmore, my husband asked if he was ready for us to go back to discuss our son’s teeth. Dr. Densmore replied, "It’s all done." Unsure of what he was saying, we questioned, "What is all done?" The Doctor then responded, "I pulled out two of your son’s teeth". Instantly I was upset because the Doctor never called us back to discuss any options or to explain to us what he was going to do! I never gave him permission to touch our son let alone pull his teeth!

Trying to stay calm, I attempted to ask Dr. Densmore some questions about our son’s situation. One question was, "Is there going to be any on-going problems with his teeth?" The Dr. replied, "No." Then I asked, "Did you take any x-rays to confirm that?" Again the Dr. replied "No." Dr. Densmore then stated that our son was too young to get x-rays. My husband spoke up and said, "The reason we are asking is because our son’s Grandfather and I have had the same situation happen to us and it eventually caused us problems." As the Doctor was walking away from us he stated, "There shouldn’t be a problem."

I feel that Dr. Densmore was extremely rude and very unprofessional. None of my questions were answered to any degree of satisfaction. I am still unsure as to why he felt he had to pull two of my son’s teeth. He never gave us any reason or explanation as to why he felt there wouldn’t be any ongoing problems with my son’s teeth given a family history of the problems. I am going to take my son elsewhere. I wanted it to be noted that I feel this all could of been avoided if the doctor would of communicated with me about this situation.
