House & Home, Furniture - Sears Homelife Furniture quality problems with couch, loveseat
sears homelife furniture, roseville, michigan Furniture, Other From: Raymond Frank Email User Date: Monday, February 05, 2001 01:42 PM _____________________ On 10/1/00, we bought a couch and love seat from the Sears Homleife Furniture Store in Roseville, Michigan. The furniture was delivered as promised on 10/10/00. The couch was defective but was replaced within a few days. On 01/21/01, my son sat on the love seat and felt something give. When we examined it, it was obvious that the frame joint had separated. The next morning I telephoned that local Sears repair center but was advised that I would have to telephone the Homelife Furniture Company. I did so and was advised that because I purchsed the furniture at the time Sears was liquidating the Homelife division, there was nothing they could do and I would have to contact the manufacturer. I telephoned the Hillcraft Furniture Company in New Albany, Mississippi and was advised that they had no responsibility and I should contact Sears. My next step was to write a letter to the President of Sears with copies to the president of Homelife and Hillcraft Furniture. I received a telephone call from the customer service department of Homelife on 02/02/01. They provided me with the telephone number of the "liquidator" who handled the sale for Sears. There is no answer at the number. My dissertation is a complaint and warning to other consumers. Be careful when dealing with Sears, Homelife, and Hillcraft furniture as they apparently refuse to stand behind the merchandise they sell unless it is their own best interest. If anyone has any advice on what my next step should be, I would truly appreciate it.
