Computer Hardware - Gateway problem with hardware and customer service

Complaints.com received the following e-message on February 4, 2001:

Gateway is a company with the poorest customer service that I have ever experienced.
The quality of their product matches the customer service. After of only 4 months of service from a $1200 system, I was on the phone for a lengthy period of type on a Saturday and Sunday trying to get my Windows Me edition to load after a re-start. I was told numerous things to try in between being put on hold by tech support.
I was even told to re-format my system.
Finally after 2 days of trying I was told to take it in to the local Gateway for repair. Well, I was told that the waiting period was 14 days. Well its been over 21 days and I havent heard a word, and everytime I call them (which they ask me not to do) I can't get a straight answer.
I finally called a lousy 800 number I was given to file a complaint and after calling and being put straight on hold everytime, I finally got to speak to a person and he email the store manager at the Gateway Store in Greenville, South Carolina, who in turn sent me a letter apologizing. I was told that he would personally call me!
After find this site I see I am not alone in my quest to get my computer fixed. What about my free AOL that I am missing........do I get re-imbursed for that ?
I hate that I ever purchased a Gateway and will spread the word to everyone I can to "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT PURCHASING A GATEWAY"!
