I bought a contract Nokia 3210e from orange at the end of october 2000.

It has been nothing but trouble. both the phone and the service io have received. from purchase these are the problems i have had:

1. the initial phone i recieved the keypad lock did bnot work so i tock it back to the orange store in Aberdeen which i origeonally purchased it from.

They took the phone out of site into the back office for about five minutes and then came back and said they had run a diagnostic on the sim card which had proven to be faulty.

fair enough they completely replaced both phone and sim card with brand new phone numbers (the reason i mention this is becaiuse it has cost me both time and money telling every one the first no. and nopw i had to do it again). this was the 1st of november.

2. as soon as i had the brand new phone fully charged i discovered it had exactly the same fault.

as i was not in town at this point i phoned up the 24 help line and spoke to them. they said the fault was because my phone handset and sim card were incompatable (orange sells them packaged together) and said they would send me a replacement sim card.

3. problem number three was discovered when trying to use the predictive text messaging was that the phone obviously had a predudice against '?' as whenever i tried to use one it would switch off, also when trying to use alternative possible words if it didn't like the word i would try to select it would insert one of its own and refuse to let me change it, again i phoned the help line and they asked could dust have got on the keypad?

however eventially i did convince them off the problem and they said they would send out a new hand set sometime the next day between 9 and 1, this was free of charge however if noone was in to sign for it i would be charged 13 pounds and have to arrange another delivery date.

so i wasted an entire day waiting for the delivery man (and according to him i am one of many people having problems as he is a very busy man at present).

4. problem number four ,the most recent, occered last weekend when my phone refused to charge and subsequently despite being plugged into a charger that still works on other nokia 3210s went dead, although this was not before it managed to repeatedly call and hang up upon the first number in my address book, while on its own in an empty room. again i phoned the helpline and this time i asked to be put through to complaints.

They said 'it is very unfortunate' and 'you do seem to be unlucky' and best of all 'we will send you a completly new nokia 3210e handset and sim straight from the factory which we assure you will be free of faults as it will have undergone factory testing' however as all the other phone had also had this testing too (i checked, htey all go through it apparently) i did not understand how they could say this one would be any less problamatic.

I declined this offer as they told me it would be within my statutory rights to just cancel the contract altogether but i would have to do this at the shop in aberdeen where i bought my phone.

I took my phone in on monday (it is now thursday) and everyday i have been told by the manager that he has to check with this person or that department but if i come back tommorrow he will hopefully have it sorted, in the meantime i am still being charged for a phone i do not have as it is still faulty and in the oranbge shop and apparenttly i may only 'maybe be creditted back to my account' for these charges which to be honest is no use anyway as the whole point is i dont want the account.
