June 2000, I planned a vacation back to Hong Kong and decided to store my personal items including T.V., stereo, clothing, etc... at a local storage company listed on the yellow pages.

When the moment I decided to use this company called "JEFF MOVERS", my tragic story also began.

In my entire life, I have never been as frustrated as dealing with "JEFF's" to be honest.

I have started storing my personal items at "JEFF's" since June, and was charged $79.00 per month that I found no problem with.

The person in charge over called Mike was nice also at the very beginning.

Not long after I decided to stay in Hong Kong for good, his fake mask had been revealed. As I have decided to ship back all my belongings to Hong Kong from their warehouse, I asked a quotation from Mike.

But what he has given me was totally nonsense. Try to make this clear, I will pin-point every details for you to judge whether the ways "JEFF MOVERS" does business is considered to be ethical or not?

Their frauds are so many (From June to December 2000):

1. The quotation (not in details of course) given by "JEFF's" for shipping around 400lbs was $2,498.00. I have compared with many other shipping companies in US and all of them have quoted me randomly from $500.00 to $600.00 for the exact same service "JEFF's" offers.

2. As I couldn't afford, I decided to use another company instead of "JEFF's". Mike's attitude changed completely to be rude and impolite. He wouldn't release my goods either unless I let them do the shipping.

3. Whenever I called Mike on the phone with long distance, he would put me on hold for more than 5 minutes each time, and the line sometimes got cut off without any reasons, I wondered if he did it on purpose.

4. Mike agreed to release my goods finally but I have to pay him a big amount up to $489.00 because of the "packing and unpacking charges" (sounds terrible and nonsense?) However, he had never told me or quoted to me anything related to the said charges before everything has been done on his side alone. I strongly think this is not a healthy way of business practice.

5. The only receipt I have ever received was for the first month storage and pick-up service. Nothing else was ever heard or received from "JEFF's" except to remind me for the next monthly storage charge.

6. I tried to negotiate with Mike for the price he quoted me earlier of the shipping and he said it could be down to $900.00. I found it totally unacceptable not because of the price. But because of the way he does business.

Think about it, we are now talking about a reduction that is over 50%. Would that be possible? If so, why would he quote to me $2,498.00 at the very first place? He sure did want to deceive my money at first.

Conclusion:

1. Because Mike knows that I am in a foreign country and can do nothing with my belongings, he thought I would pay for whatever he has said which I did.

2. Mike was trying to deceive my money at first. After he found out that I couldn't afford the $2,000.00, he brought down the price to $900.00. It does not make any sense to me.

3. Mike was trying to delay the process of shipping because he can earn more of the storage from me.

4. Never any formal quotations were given before he has done something with my belongings, e.g. packing & unpacking, transferring from one place to another, etc... Mike only billed me after everything has been done according his own wish.

And forced me to pay afterwards by threatening me that otherwise he would put all my belongings onto auction.

With the payment I sent "JEFF's", my tragedy seems to be over. Loosing money on one hand, I am also very upset and frustrated about all these happenings.

In order to avoid anyone who would experience what I have been through, I am speaking up for myself and also to protect people from deceiving by "JEFF MOVERS" in any means, and to also testify any unhealthy business practices, which should not be allowed or existed in the world filled with legal justices.
