RE: Swimming Pool Liner

Complaint:Kinney Pool and Patio Center

2155 Route 88

East Bricktown, NJ 08723

In May of 1998, I contracted Kinney Pools to install a new liner and coping for my inground pool. The installation was done in June of 1998.

Upon opening of our pool in May of 1999, we found the liner out of the track. We called Kinney Pools and they sent there repair man to reset the liner in the coping, and he noted that the seams were coming apart in the right side corner of the shallow end, and the left side of the deep end.

He noted this and said he would tell his boss. Within two weeks the separation was so bad (4 ft. from the corner out) on both ends that we could not use the Pool at all.

After many attempts they finally had Criteria Products, Inc. the maker of the liner, look at it, they said it was under warranty and the liner was replaced by Kinney Pools in October of 1999. I had complained at that time that the skimmer was cut out wrong and was not set correctly.

The pool was closed for the winter. I was not present for this, due to being in hospital for second spinal surgery. When we opened the pool on May 7,2000, we found the liner detached in numerous places and under the skimmer was completely detached and stretched and torn.

We called Kinney Pools and the maker of the liner Criteria Products Inc. Kinney pools came out to see liner they told me that the could repair it, by seaming in a new piece. Criteria Products sent a service men they said that they would not guaranty it if Kinney Pools seamed it and that they did not think it could be repaired correctly in the field.

Kinney Pools said that they would guaranty the liner. And that we would not even be able to tell that it had been repaired. I just wanted what I paid for a new liner not a repaired one. I called BBB and filed a complaint. The BBB said that I should let Kinney Pools try to fix the problem.

I called Kinney, and they said that they would patch it and no one would know that it was patched. After they patched it, I was not happy! The border is off at the skimmer, and when I asked the repair man about the liner out of track, he told me that I would have to drain the water out for the repair. I am not happy about the repairs they made.

I paid for a new liner, not one that has been patched before anyone even used the pool. So far we lost a whole season of use (which I needed for therapy) and twice we had to fill my pool at our expense. June 1, 2000 the service man that patched the liner call and informed us that Kinney Pools would replace the liner. And that he would be over to take measurments and order a new liner.

I have yet to see any of this take place as of yet.
