RE: Capital One Credit Card - no days late but still charged a $ 29 late fee
No days late, but still charged a late fee. On 17th of August, just as I do on the 17th of every month, I sat down to pay my bills. An unidentifiable balance of over $50.00 appeared on my Capital One card, despite the fact that it hadn't been used in months and the only charge should have been a monthly $14.95 fee. The due date on the card is the 17th, so I figured I wasn't late, but no statement was available for me to view.
Come the 19th, I received the statement and discovered the discrepancy was indeed a late fee of $29.00 which had been charged the DAY BEFORE the payment was due, because the due date landed on a Sunday. Mind you I had last paid on June 17, 2003 and had a zero balance at that time. I complained to a not-willing-to-do-anything Customer Service Rep as well as her rather rude Supervisor.
I paid the entire balance against my better judgement and plan on cancelling the card. How can a company charge a $29.00 late fee on a balance that WASN'T EVEN DUE YET!
