RE: Penn Furniture, Port Jefferson Station, NY - ongoing hassle getting replacement top for coffee table Attached is my experience with purchasing furniture from Penn Furniture in Port Jefferson Station, New York: I purchased the furniture in September or October of 2002. The furniture was not delivered as timely as promised, but this was not a major issue. Once delivered, several problems existed with the living room and dining furniture. Over time, the problems were repaired, again, not as timely as promised. At the time of the last repair, the repairman advised he could not make the repairs to my coffee table.
There was a hair imbedded in the finish, but it was too deep for him to fix. He advised a new table top would be ordered, and it would take 4 weeks to come in. Three and a half months later, I still had heard nothing. I called Penn Furniture and left several messages for the repair center, which went unanswered. Eventually, I reached someone, who told me the table top had been ordered, but had not come in, yet. They were to call the manufacturer and get back to me with a status.
They never called. When I called them, I was told the table top would be in soon and I would be called to make an appointment. I never received a call. When I called, again, I was advised the repair center was closed for the week. The woman I spoke with said she would call me with a status, but never did. When I spoke with her later, she told me she didn't return my call, as promised, because she was busy.
When I spoke with the owner, he could tell me nothing. I promised I would receive a call from the repair manager, Ernie, first thing Monday morning. I received no call. When I called, the owner refused to get on the phone. Ernie advised me the table had to be brought to their store for repair.
He said a table top had never been ordered and never would have been. I asked why I had been told that the table top had been ordered but had not, yet, arrived. I got no answer.
