RE: Orkin - paid $ 175 for termite inspection and letter - letter expired before home closing

We've had Orkin Termite control for over 10 years. Our home has been for sale, and we needed a termite letter to close. In May we got an inpection done and were handed the letter (after we paid $175). Lo and behold the letter is only good for 30 days, at which point (postponement of closing, default, and another contract), we had

to schedule another inspection. It was 2 weeks from closing and we were told: 1. We don't have anyone available to do an inpection. (we missed the closing, because we didn't have a letter) 2. We don't give you the letter anymore, it has to go to our regional office for review, and it takes 5-10 days to process (I live in Atlanta, they are based in Atlanta!) 3. They said they would check the schedule and a week later I had to call them back. I told them I had 10 days to closing, and since they were coming out to do the renewal inspection, couldn't they do the termite

letter at the same time? (Yes). 4. The inspection was done on August 3, my closing is August 10, and again they are telling me 5-10 days before I get the letter back from the regional office. OTHER COMPANIES CHARGE $45 FOR A 180 DAY LETTER. WITH A 30 DAY EXTENSION. ORKIN SAYS THEY DON'T DO THIS, AND THEY CHARGE $175 EACH TIME. ALSO THE 5-10 DAY WAIT IS A RECENT CHANGE (REMEMBER WE GOT THE FIRST LETTER IN MAY 2002). ONCE YOU ARE COVERED BY ONE COMPANY, ANOTHER COMPANY WON'T WRITE YOU A

LETTER UNLESS YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE PROPERTY RE-TREATED ($1000) BY THEM. I have filed a complaint with the FTC in Georgia! Don't Use Orkin!!!! Cynthia Willard
