RE: Fleet Bank - purchased Summit Bank and checking account - poor customer service as result
I had a checking account with Summit Bank for over one year. Summit Bank was purchased by Fleet Bank.
I was told the Workplace account would remain the same and I was advised that Fleet had to abide by the account that I originally signed up for in July 2001 by Fleet and Summit representatives - nothing needed to be done on my part and the acquisition would run smoothly. One year later, July 2002, I was told my contract expired. (Contract, wow, never knew I signed up for a contract with Fleet!) I was charged a $10 fee! NO NOTICE WAS SENT I called, complained and they removed the fee.
I was told there would be a $10 Fee if my account was to fall below one hundred dollars. Fee was waived since there was a misunderstanding.
Had to visit the branch to go through all this aggravation and hear how the Assistance Branch Manager's husband had to have the same problem (Like I care about her husband!) August - Kept the daily balance over $100 and - surprise - another $10 Fee. Called Fleet to complain. Once again I was instructed that my balance was too low. Now I needed $1,000 in my account to avoid the fee. When I said what happened to the representative who said it was $100 they wanted a name. (OK...I keep a log of everyone's name I speak with!) I guess Fleet makes up their fees as they go along. Good thing I am changing banks! Suggestion: Go to smaller banks and boycott larger banks!
