RE: Sears repair services - trouble with Northland refrigerator repair - ended getting it fixed by another contractor
On 6/21/02 I called Sears repair services as my Northland refrigerator was not cooling at all. The person taking the call convinced me to buy a service contract for the refrigerator. Stated "it will cover todays service call which probably be around $125.00". The repairman came later that day, checked the refrigerator and determined that the compresor was bad.
As the compresor was not in stock he said it will take about a week to get one. After a week, he called back and said he could not locate a compresor, I went ahead and gave him an 800 # for Northland refrigerators so he could get the compresor.
Another week went by, I called again and complained, the local office told me they will look into it and call back which they never did. Finally after I made another call they said the repairman will be in on 7/27.
Meanwhile I had paid the service contract ($159.43). Nobody showed up on the 28th, I called the same day(a saturday) and was told he will be in on monday the 30th.
Again no show. Finally on the 31st after many calls I was informed that Sears unilaterally had cancelled the contract on the 25th of June! At least 6 weeks had gone by and there never was a notification or reason to cancel the contract.
Instead I was lied to and misled for a good 6 weeks. I was without a refrigerator all that time, living off 2 ice chest with my 91 year old diabetic aunt and a 62 year old diabetic wife who was also receiving chemotherapy. An independent repairman fix it within a week.
