RE: Cannata Brothers Floors, Brooklyn, NY - wood floors sanded, coated - resulted in two adjoining rooms with different finishes - no satisfaction given from company
Good Day: My complaint is againt Cannata Brothers, Inc. Floors, located at 1702 East 49th Street, Brooklyn, NY.; telephones:718-252-1100; 718-252-7412; 718-677-3323; 212-227-1996. The saga begins on July 8th, 2002. I hired Cannata Brothers to sand and refinish two adjoining rooms. The first room was sanded, sealed, and a first coat of high gloss polyurethane was applied. The worker admired my floors and told me that a second coat of satin polyurethane would make these floors so much more beautiful. Hence, I had a second coat of satin finish applied the following day. Beautiful. Fast forward to July 15th. Adjoining room was sanded, sealed and a first coat of satin polyurethane was applied. The following day, a second coat of satin was applied, leaving me with two connecting rooms with two different finishes. The following day, upon contacting Cannata Brothers, the entire demeanor changed. They had no interest in resolving the problem, but upon my insistence, they sent their men the following day or so to evaluate the problem. At first, they could not figure out what they had done. Please note that I was at work on this day and my son was at my home with the staff.
At this point, they said they would apply another coat of polyurethane to the first room and I told them that would not work. It would still be two different finishes. After speaking to whom I believe was one of the "brothers", I told him that I would take another day off the following day and asked if he would please come to my house to evaluate and solve the probelm, as I have a wedding taking place in a few months and want to get my house in order.
I was told he would send his men the next day to put down another coat of polyurethane, (which type, I was not told) and that I should not call them anymore to complain about my floors. I told him that I would continue to call until he got it right. Please understand, that Cannata Brothers now had almost $600.00 including tax and tips, of my money. I moved all the furniture back into the second room (again), and the next day the crew showed up to "fix it". What they did was applied another coat of thick high gloss to the room that had two coats of satin, painted around the furniture that was sitting in the other room (not in any particular order) and left. When I moved my furniture back, I was appalled by what they had done. Visitors who have come to my home since then all ask, "What's wrong with your floors?" Last week, I called Cannata Brothers again and left a message for Mr. Cannata himself to PLEASE, (if he had any integrity and cared about the quality of workmanship his company produces) come look at the floors, and that I would have no alternative but to contact Consumer Affairs, the BBB, etc. if he did not. I have not had a return call and believe I will not be hearing from them again. Can you help? Anything would be appreciated. I can have photos of the floores scanned and sent to you upon request. I look forward to your reply. Thank you. They apparently contracted out the job that I gave them and a bunch of inexperienced slobs showed up at the house to scratch up the wood floors and spill polyurethane all over the brick stoop. The quality of the work was frighteningly bad. They also go by the name "A-1 Floors". I guess they've had a lot of complaints and are hiding.
