Best Buy - purchased lap top computer with understanding that no interest charged - but was charged interest after 12 months expired

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on August 16, 2002:

RE: Best Buy - purchased lap top computer with understanding that no interest charged - but was charged interest after 12 months expired we bought a lap top computer from best buy during a sale that was offering 12 months no interest as long as payments were made on time. At the end of six months we were charged interest and the store then told us our purchase wasn't covered by the 12 month program.

The end result is that we have to pay interest because the store clerk lied when we asked if it was covered.If we had known that it wasn't covered we would have paid it off sooner.So this now ends up costing us a couple hundred dollars in interest.

At the store they came up with three different reasons why we are wrong, their reasons were wrong but I find it odd that it could be for invalid reasons such as late payments and msn which is ridicules. We have bought many computers in the past from best buy because we are both in real estate.

When it comes to the point that a salesperson deliberately tells you it is a twelve month program and it isn't the responsibility of best buy according to the service Dept. then I say it is time to stop doing business with Best Buy and put this experience in our newsletter that goes out to thousands of real estate consumers and let them decide if this is the type of people they want to do business with.
