RE: Getty Gas Station, Montville, CT - purchased $ 40 of gas, charged $ 400 - no refund yet
On April 27, 2002 I stopped to gas up my truck at the Getty Gas Station in Montville, CT. They had just finished installing new gas pumps that now accepted credit card payments at the pump. They had been closed for a while for this renovation. I gassed up filling my 32 gallon gas tank with 27.80 gallons of gas and the pump read a $40.00 charge.
I printed the receipt and stuck it in my vehicle log book after writing down what was reading on the pump. A few weeks later when I received my credit card bill I was astonished to see a $400.00 charge for gasoline. I checked my vehicle log and had wrote $40.00 but when I pulled out my receipt it only gave the date, transaction number and showed $400.00 for the charge.
I felt dumb for not looking at the receipt even though the pump read correctly! I immediately went to the Getty Station and was informed that they did have a problem with the pumps that day and that some people were charge as much as $8000.00. I was assured by the store owner/manager that he would contact Getty and I would show a credit in my next credit card billing.
Well, that has not happened. I have been trying to find a site on the web to contact Getty myself but have been unsuccessful so far. My credit card company said since I had left the gas station that day without registering a complaint that they can do nothing! It is getting very frustrating and I don't know which course to take at this point! Can someone PLEASE advise me? Thanks!
