Cingular - www.cingularny.com - "free" handset offer not really free - either need to buy something or pay shipping charge

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on August 14, 2002:

I received an email from a company called cingular advertising an absolutely free of charge hands free cellular headset just for calling them. No obligation to buy anything.

I called and asked the person who answered the phone to mail me some information about their services, I was very rudely told to go to their website for any information I want. (www. cingularny.com) I then inquired about the hands free headset and was told I would receive it only if I brought something from them ...

Unbeknown to me at this time, was that my husband was at his office and received the same email, offering the same (FREE)hands free headset just for calling them. He was told he could have the headset but would have to pay a $6.00 shipping and handling charge.

I think this company is trying to pull a fast one and someone should look into this for false advertising.
