RE: 1999 Chevrolet Malibu LS with 55,000 miles - engine failure

Our '99 Chevy Malibu LS with 55,000 miles has been at the shop for over a month now. When the engine started shooting antifreeze out the overflow we thought there may be a problem, turns out the heads were very warped and the Chevy Service center said they think it is a parts failure caused by overheating, but they don't know what caused the overheating.

They then told us the cost of replacing two heads would be between $3200 and $3600 or we could just put in a new engine that would cost $2500 plus parts and labor.

When we contacted Western Diversified (a division of Protective out of Deerfield, IL) who provides the extended warantee they said that because the Service Center will not give a original cause of failure (what caused the overheating) they will not cover the repair.

Contacting Chevrolet Customer Service resulted in three weeks of stalling, finally resulting in "The service center can't find the cause of the failure." So we don't know who to have a lawyer contact, Chevy for having this problem, the service center for not looking for the problem, or the warrantee company for not paying for the problem.

Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Reid Haataja
