Stores, K-mart, Bullhead City, Arizona layaway sent back

Complaints.com received the following e-message on August 7, 2001:

On June 13, 2001 My daugher and myself visited your K-mart store in Bullhead City Arizona, and spent a couple hours picking things out for my granddaughter for school. When we took them up to layaway they were closed and it wasn't even 7PM. So my daughter fouind someone and asked if they could hold them until the next day and she would be in to put them on layaway. Shelley my daughter went down the next day and put them on layaway we live about 42 miles away, and we chose this K-Mart because it has cuter clothes then the Kingman store. On July 18, 2001 someone from the store called her house and left a message stating she needed to make a payment the time she got home the layaway dept was closed. The next day I called Layaway and told them my husband would be in either today or the next day to make a payment, which he did go in at 11AM on Fri the 20th of July and made a payment of 30.00 by check and he had to make it at the register because the layaway was not open.

The sign says from 10AM until 7 PM. We went down last nite Aug 6,2001 to pick this layaway up and we were told they had sent it back on July22, 2001 and it shows the payment was made on the 20th of July and Scott the guy that waited on us did not know why it was sent back and we were also charged 10.00 cancellation fee. This layaway was not even due out until Aug. 22, 2001. We don't feel we should of had to pay the cancellation fee since it was not our fault it got cancelled, and half the time the layaway is never open besides my daughter is a single mother and she had to spend extra gas to go down there just to put the clothes on layaway to begin with. We feel your store is not focused on the customer or the employee, just the almighty dollar, and we can assure we won't be buying from your store any time soon this is very poor management. We can understand if it is Christmas or something like that to put it back but after I called and made a payment then two days later sent it back and my daughter and been down before to make a payment and the layaway was closed.
