RE: Allied Interstate - fradulent attempt to collect money for AOL
Hi, I was contacted by a company called Allied Interstate stating that they represented america online .They claim they are a collection company and that I owe AOL 47.80 for an unpaid bill .I called AOL and spoke to a young man named Lowell (screen name Email User) he checked through all the records and stated I do not owe AOL anything.
The person I spoke with at Allied Interstate was a William Covington who stated that if I did not give him my credit card # or checking account # over the phone that I would be reported to the the credit beurea within 30 days. As of this time i have not recieved any bills from AOL for these charges. AOL has told me when I checked with them, that i do not have any outstanding accounts.
I have reported this situation to the Federal Trade Commision ref # 2889269. I also have reported this situation to the consumer protection board in Albany, NY. I also intened on contacting the Attorney Generals Office of NY, regarding this situation. I am attaching a copy wit hthe fax i recieved from them with the charge id number, which is 478918. I would appreciate your expediant attention to this matter. P.S - This so called former account was in my former name which i have not used for over 7 years. Thank you, lindalee Bishop
