I purchased a new suburban in 1999 and with that vehicle I requested a GM extended warranty. I find out 2.5 years later upon having to use the extended warranty that I was stuck with a "Dealer" warranty, meaning that I MUST take the vehicle back to the selling dealer and not "my dealer of choice."

The time it takes to deliver the vehicle to BFE and get a ride back to my home or office is not good. On one of the last extended warranty items, I just paid to have it fixed locally since it wound up being to my advantage in time savings, etc.

Advice - DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR EXTENDED WARRANTY - GET THE ONE DIRECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER SINCE IT SHOULD BE HONORED ANYWHERE. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "LOCAL" WARRANTY SINCE IN THE EVENT THE DEALER HAS PROBLEMS OR CANNOT FIX YOUR PROBLEM, YOU ARE STUCK...

Yes, I should have known better since I also have a 1998 Chevy Truck and it has a GM extended warranty, but I did not check close enough and got rooked.
