RE: Kyocera Optics, Inc. (Yashica/Contax Camera Repair) Customer Service
Kyocera Optics' Technical Support facility in Irwindale, California (Email User) lost 2 Contax cameras while they were being serviced and subsequently refused responsibility for the loss. I would like them to find and return or replace my equipment. On December 6th 2001, I mailed 2 Contax cameras (AX 018950 and RX 012111) to Kyocera Optics' Irwindale address requesting a normal clean, lubricate and adjust service. I followed all Kyocera instructions for mailing and insurance found at http://www.contaxcameras.com/. On December 10th, I called Irwindale to find out if they had received my cameras and was told by the Kyocera Optics' receptionist that "yes, the package had arrived safely and that the technicians should start on the cameras later in the week." On December 20th, I called Irwindale again to determine what the service charge would be. At this time I was told that both cameras "were in disassembly so that the technicians could not yet determine how much the repair would be." In January and early February, I tried to reach the Irwindale facility unsuccessfully. On February 26th, I called Irwindale and was referred to Kyocera Optics' New Jersey Facility and learned that the Irwindale facility had been closed and that New Jersey had no record of my cameras being serviced. By March 6th, I had mailed a complete record of the events to date to the Kyocera representative in New Jersey. These materials included, letters, records of phone calls, sales receipts, copies of original boxes and warranty cards to prove that I had purchased and owned the cameras which were sent to them for service. After all this, the Kyocera rep needed the postal insurance slip to prove that the cameras had indeed been delivered to them. Of course, I had tossed the receipt once the staff in Irwindale told me (on two separate occasions) that they had safely received my equipment. A word of caution, as of April 16, 2002, Kyocera Optics still has the Irwindale, California information on their website. I strongly suggest you not send any Contax or Yashica camera equipment to the Iwrindale, California at this time.
