We had a rental property through Exit Realty. Husband had a job transfer and we gave a 90 day verbal notice of needing to end the lease 2 months early. They were very nice about it and asked if they could start showing the house right away since the owner was having to let the house go up for Short Sale. We were happy to oblige.

They did ask for a written notice as well. We did as they asked.

We made certain the home was clean and presentable every time they called and asked to show it.

The very last day when they came to do a move out inspection and get the keys, they told us the owner had changed his mind and did not want to allow us to cancel the lease. The realtor had known for a couple of months that he had said this and never told us.

They took the keys, refuse to return them to us and said they plan to keep our security deposit for leaving early plus charge us the final 2 months rent.

All of a sudden these very friendly people got very rude and nasty. The agent Denise even was using profanity towards my wife over this matter.

And refuses to let us talk to the landlord. (his phone numbers that we have are now dis-connected)

If they had been coureous or professional enough to tell us in advance, then we could have prepared for the situation and only paid 2 months rent rather than losing deposit and not being allowed to use the house while still paying rent.

We have things in storage locally that we could have kept in the house instead and saved a couple of hundred dollars for a storage building.

On the last day she did say (Denise) that she was fine with breaking the lease and returning the deposit. And so was the owner. But the owners new wife (who is not on the lease or the deed to the house) changed her mind and would not allow it.
