I called to order some replacement slings for patio furniture to be shipped to Canada. I asked about the costs to have the items cross the border to Canada and was brushed off. Beware that UPS will charge more than $34 for brokerage and fees for a $50 worth of parts shipped into Canada. This is over and above the courier charges. I don't feel that Patio Direct was very forthcoming. At a minimum, if they were truly unaware they should have said so.

This is a common and very annoying error made by US shippers to Canada.
UPS Standard looks like the cheapest shipping but Brokerage and Fees make equal to either the most expensive overnight option or close to it. In a way I think it is fraud, the shipper choses standard and UPS delivers then bills you later for the brokerage and fees.
If you ship expidited it will save between 30 and 50% as brokerage is included.
Call them and tell them they are dumb.
