I would recommend Shady Dell Stables to anyone looking for a quality boarding, or lesson facility! This place is definitely top notch! From the staff to the other boarders to the students, it just can't get any better!

Based on your experiences? I have been at Shady Dell Stables for a while now, and everyday I am impressed with all of the staff, boarders and students that come/work at Shady Dell. There isn't any place around that compares to the degree of profesionalism, care, knowledge, and teamwork that Shady Dell Stables provides to every horse and customer there.
5a11035c, 2011-08-21, 02:57PM CDT
I agree! Shady Dell is fantastic and I would ( if I had a horse) board my horse at Shady Dell. The instructors are great, and extremly helful! There really is no better lesson program/ boarding facility around! - very pleased customer!
5a11035c, 2011-09-11, 07:04AM CDT
I agree, now with the new owners, they just got rid of a fantastic instructor and I will NOT be taking lessons at that facility ever again. The new owners are rude and are letting their barn manager (which has no business being a barn manager) run the facility. It will only be time until Shady Dell Stables falls flat on their face!
c3fb36e1, 2011-09-11, 08:18PM CDT
I don't agree with any of this. I personally would recommend Shady Dell Stables, and the staff, owners and NEW instructor to anyone seeking quality lessons and boarding. The facility is awesome and the staff extremely helpful. If you want a great horse experience, check them out!
c3fb36e1, 2011-09-12, 07:12AM CDT
There are some individuals that do not share the same values or business ethics, and standards as the owners and staff, and therefore, might have found a place down the road willing to stoop to a lower standard. It takes a special individual to launch an negative internet campaign over a several year period of time. It is true that Shady Dell Stables is not the best place for ALL horse people.
27906e9e, 2011-09-12, 04:57PM CDT
The new owners have done a great job of making sure that Shady Dell continues to raise the bar on quality of instruction, care and professionalism! I will continue to recommend Shady Dell to anyone that wants an outstanding experience with horses!
5a11035c, 2011-09-15, 10:50AM CDT
I just quit taking lessons there due to the loss of one of the best instructors that I have ever had. Thier loss!!!! I do not recommend Shady Dell Stables!
5a11035c, 2011-09-15, 11:19AM CDT
I disagree with the previous statement. The new owners are taking a turn for the worse, they do not know what they are getting themselves into. They keep changing things and clients are getting angry. In two years, they are going to fire everyone there, and have their daughter take over the farm anyway... it will not be a consitant program until thier daughter gets out of college, and even then I question the overall business.

Shady Dell Stables is the most incompetent bunch of people ever met. First of all, they made the biggest mistake of their soon to be lifetime path of failure. They fired the best instructor they could ever have HOPED to have. Not only was she loved by ALL of her students, she was hands down one of the best teachers with a true gift for teaching that is unparalleled by any. Then, they made their second mistake, do you see a pattern? They hired the most immature, unprofessional, I can't even call her an instructor she's so godawful. I'm appalled at the direction this facility is taking. Never again will I ever recommend this barn to ANYONE. I will never return for lessons, the only good horse they have is Colton, and you can not support an ENTIRE lesson program on one horse no matter how awesome he is.... I'd like point out that the ONLY reason Colton was a good horse is because of the AMAZING instructor that was working with him.
Not only was firing the instructor a bad idea, it was a bad business move. First thing a business owner, especially in the horse world, should learn is that EVERYTHING travels word of mouth. I will never, ever say a good thing about this facility again. This barn definitely fired the wrong instructor. Good luck trying to get good business when you have a barn full of two faced people. Good riddance.
5a11035c, 2011-09-19, 08:43PM CDT
The BEST instructor ever was at this barn and was let go, I will never return to Shady Dell. Not only are the new owners and employees immature, rude, and clueless but they think they can run a lesson facility/ training facility/ AND boarding facility. The person that they let go, was the ONLY thing good about that barn, and now that they let her go, they will be hurting financially for a long time. For anyone out there looking for a place to take lessons/board or train : take it from someone that was there - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!
5c0a7e42, 2011-09-19, 09:04PM CDT
A five year old would have more common sense than these new barn owners. Oh man did they ever blow it. They fired the wrong teacher here. The new teacher is very childish. She is unprofessional and acts like a teenager. Her teaching skills are on par with an illiterate primate. If they were going to get a new instructor they should have found someone with at least HALF a brain.
These owners should take up knitting instead. I hear it's less self-destructive.

Shady dell stables, under both previous and current ownership, is a mockery of stables everywhere. First, the owner was an obnoxious money hungry tyrant, and now the new owners are as clueless as a
Giraffe confronted with an algebraic equation. Proof of this is the letting go
Of their main instructor, who also was their biggest asset. I wish these newcomers luck, I hear bankruptcy is a pain to deal with.

Recently, they let their main instructor, and single BIGGEST asset go. Its sad, to see a facility with somuch potential go
To waste. Best of luck to the new owners.. however I hear bankruptcy is rough.

A student of mine pointed out this site to me. I am the one that was recently replaced and I am the one that everyone is posting the positive and negative comments about/to. This is the only comment that I have/will post. I worked at Shady Dell Stables for almost a year and a half. Most of that time was with the previous owner. I know that BASHING people doesn??t get you far in life and so I am not going to do that, that would be childish. All I will say is that I had a hard time working for her, as did many of her employees. But, she sold SDS and moved onto what she wanted to do with her life, plain and simple. Here are my positive comments about Shady Dell- 1. The horses always come first. Never once did I ever question the care of the horses. In fact, one barn manager that worked there for a long time took the BEST care of horses that I have ever seen. Unfortunately, she also does not work there anymore either. Even after the farm was sold, this stayed true. The horses are ALWAYS taken care of and well cared for. 2.the facility is FANTASTIC, no one can beat it. From the barns to the pastures, to the rings - a beautiful facility!! 3. The girl that I was replaced with-I wish the best of luck to.
I wish the best of luck to all of Shady Dell and Staff!
Lets all move on...

The place just isn't the same anymore since first the instructor and then barn manger was fired. If you're going to pay monthly board, it's just as well to skip the drama and clueless owners and board elsewhere.

I took lessons from both instructors at Shady Dell, I was not satisfied. I would not recommend Shady Dell to anyone.

Abuse of horses, botulism, and inconsistent staff is three reasons this facility and instructors/ staff should be avoided at all costs. Obviously I do not recommend this so called business to ANYONE!The lesson program is a joke. Keep your kids safe avoid this stable!!!!!
Firetester, 2013-01-02, 11:47AM CST
I am still a "customer" at Shady Dell only because of its location. I can't find another stable close enough. (yet) When I started there things were wonderful! There was a nice welcoming feeling about being part of the barn family. That has since changed to the point that I feel like I'm only tolerated for the money I pay them. And now they are raising their fees!
As for the lead instructor, she?s not up to the job. The previous comments about her were pretty accurate. Immature, ditsy, and self-absorbed. Because of the things she has said to me about other people, God only knows what she?s saying about me!!! Very unprofessional. I?ve seen her answer her cel-phone 5 times during a lesson. And the calls all appeared to be personal calls from her boyfriend. During a lesson she will ask you to walk the horse to rest him and go away to the little girls room or to make a cup of coffee and come back 10-15 minutes later. I could go on and on.
Even though the facility itself is very nice,I will not be staying there much longer and can't recomend it to anyone else.
091291d0, 2013-01-29, 03:39PM CST
Firetester is correct! Not only are the instructors unprofessional, as they discuss their parting nightly, but they are limited on their information, experience, and knowledge. The facility is new, so of course it is nice, but they have 29 plus horses on their 35 acres which makes for very muddy pastures, making the horses feet very soft, and shoes impossible, plus the abundance of scratches on each horse! Starting was great. But very soon turned into very unattractive behavior from everyone, especially the owner. They do not know how to care for horses, employees, or their customers. It is very sad. I do feel bad for the current animals in their care, they should be reported for the shape of the animals. Not only that, their business ethics are very poor. They care only about money, and do not honor their agreements. Once they are paid, if they do not provide the service they will never refund you. The very worst horsemanship I have ever dealt with, and the very worst business practice I have ever seen. Being a business owner I could never run my company like this. They are not business people, they are not farmers, and they are certainly NOT horse people.
