24 Hour Fitness Has Deceptive Sales

Membership
24-Hour Fitness
US

Recently I moved to a place where there is no 24-hour fitness. I already had a membership out of Los Angeles, but being there is no club here I called in to cancel.

First, "Nina" told me I could freeze it so I said alright. She told me I would receive a $7 fee on Sept 25 - the day the bill normally shows up. (Its gets a little confusing - so read carefully). So I ask her if I get a refund for the rest of this month, which I paid in advance. Answer: Not only does 24 hour fitness not credit it back to me, but when I reactivate the membership I cannot use it until the 25th following reactivation. Essentially, I have to pay to freeze it, pay for the unused portion of the month it freezes, and also wait to go when I start up the membership. By this time, I am debating with "Nina" about how this is going to work for me and I ask her about the "cooling off" period (if you cancel, you get a couple days to change your mind). Apparently, since I signed up before 2007 it doesnt matter.

I start to get the feeling like I am being ripped off. I pop onto their website and I see that the membership I paid 129 dollars + 45 per month month for is now 9 dollars + 29.99 per month. As Im typing, I remember a time last october when I heard something about the 29.99 monthly membership. WHen I asked at the front desk a girl said shed never heard about that.

So I call in to cancel, Im not paying 45 monthly for a 29 monthly membership! First, "Meg" asks me if I want to freeze it. I say no and explain why. Then she offers to reduce my membership to a one-club for 24 per month. I say no, not really interested. Here comes the part which blows me away, she offers to reduce my monthly fees to 29.99 if ill just keep the membership. I mean, what a slap in the face.

Needless to say, the membership has been cancelled. Realistically, I know I can find a good gym that wont leech off me.
