U-Haul refuses to rent trailers to Ford Explorer owners

U-Haul trailers U-Haul 3536 Red Bluff Rd Pasadena, TX US U-Haul discriminates against Ford Explorer owners and refuses to rent trailers to them. I e-mailed Ford, and they e-mailed back: Dear ..., Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center regarding U-Haul's Ford Explorer Rental Trailer Towing. U-Haul International's policy to exclude the Ford Explorer from being an authorized tow vehicle is a concern. Since the Mountaineer is an authorized tow vehicle, their policy is not a result of any functional issues about the vehicle's ability. In fact, U-Haul issued a field bulletin to its dealers that stated: "this policy change was not related to any safety issues." Ford management will be meeting with U-Haul in the near future to discuss their policy. We sincerely hope that we have clarified any concerns in this regard. Please be assured we don't like to say "no" to our customers and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. This is an unusual circumstance and we don't like having to make this decision, however, U-Haul has chosen not to rent behind the Ford Explorer based on our history of excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations. We work with our customers to find alternate options to help with their move. Please contact me at maria_palmisano AT uhaul.com to provide you with a telephone number to our Regional Manager's Office for assistance or answer any further concerns you may have regarding our policy.
