UPS Delivery Exception

Shipping United Parcel Service UPS Corporate Headquarters 55 Glenlake Parkway, NE Atlanta, GA 30328 US www.ups.com Our nonprofit ordered an air conditioner from LivingDirect.com, to be delivered to a naval base in California, for further shipment to our staff on one of the Channel Islands. Finding an address on a military base can be difficult, so we provided LivingDirect with a complete, 5-line address. Apparently, the fields in the UPS computers are very limited, and some lines of the address were truncated. The package was not delivered, and the tracking info said that "a postcard has been sent to the recipient" to determine the correct address. So they sent a postcard to an address that is incorrect, trusting the Postal Service to correct their error. FedEx allows shippers to opt for notification when a delivery exception occurs, but not so UPS. Meanwhile, UPS will not accept the correct address from me, since I am neither the shipper nor the named recipient. Nope, I'm just the one who paid for the air conditioner ... and the lousy delivery service. And the air conditioner is still in a UPS storage facility.
