CIRCLE GOLD CHECKING ACCOUNT CHARTER ONE BANK HARWOOD HEIGHTS, IL 60706 US WWW.CHARTERONE.COM I RECENTLY WENT ON VACATION AND HAD NO INTERNET ACCESS. I CHECKED MY BALANCE ONLINE AND HAD ABOUT $100 LEFT. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP IF MY AVAILABLE BALANCE REFLECTS EVERYTHING THAT'S ON HOLD AND EVERYTHING THAT'S PENDING. HE ANSWERED ME YES. SO I ASSUME I HAVE $100 LEFT TO SPEND. I DIDN'T GO OVER BOARD BY PURCHASING A LOT OF THINGS. I JUST BASICALLY RENTED A FEW MOVIES VIA REDBOX FOR $1 EACH. APPARENTLY, THAT AVAILABLE BALANCE DOES NOT REFLECT THE AMOUNTS THAT ARE PENDING AND THAT ARE ON HOLD. FOR EVERY $1 TRANSACTION I MADE, I WAS CHARGED $39 OVERDRAFT FEE. THIS MUST HAVE HAPPENED 7 TIMES BECAUSE MY OVER DRAFT FEES WERE ALMOST $400. I SPOKE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD A DIFFERENT STORY. THAT THE BALANCE DID NOT REFLECT THE PENDING AND THINGS ON HOLD. SHE SAID SHE CANNOT SEE EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING THROUGH. I DEPOSITED CASH IN MY CHECKING ACCOUNT VIA ATM AND IT POSTED THE NEXT DAY, HOWEVER I WAS STILL CHARGED. NOW I CHECK MY ACCOUNT, I'M BACK TO POSITIVE AND THERE'S A $30 SERVICE FEE! OH BY THE WAY AS I WAS SPEAKING TO THE LADY ON THE "CUSTOMER SERVICE" LINE, I ASKED, IF I WAS NEGATIVE, WHY ARE THE PURCHASES STILL GOING THROUGH AND NOT JUST DECLINED? SHE SAID MY DEBIT CARD DOESN'T HAVE THAT FEATURE. SO I EXPLAINED TO HER THAT I CAN JUST GO ON A SHOPPING SPREE WITHOUT MONEY IN MY ACCOUNT AND STILL NEVER BE DENIED? SHE GOT QUIET. SHE OFFERED ME A LEDGER SO I CAN KEEP TRACK OF MY ACCOUNT. I CAN'T WAIT TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT WITH THEM. Their online statements are not clear. They will hold money and your statement will reflect that it's available. My husband and I made a CASH deposit to the teller on Saturday morning. Late Monday afternoon I made a couple of purchases. In the last two days we have incurred $312 in overdraft fee's, when nowhere on our statement does it ever show that we were overdrawn! Sure our balance has been low, but I have no idea what specific purchases they are applying these fees to. I hate this bank. We are leaving them as soon as possible!
