Newport News Insider Pass Scam

Insider Pass Membership
Newport News - Insider Pass
, MD
US

I purchased an item from Newport News in January 2009. Today I realized that they've been charging me $14.95 a month as an Insider Pass membership. Apparently when you purchase an item from Newport news you are automatically enrolled in Insider Pass for a 30 day trial. After the 30 days are over, you are charged $14.95 a month for the membership. They claimed they mailed me information in regards to the membership, but I never received anything. If I'd known I was going to get these charges, I would have never bought anything from Newport News. I realized that the charges had been occuring for 5 months on my account. I called to cancel and found they have 2 options on their phone. One is to cancel and the other is to talk to a representative. If this is happening to you, talk to the representative. I told her I was pissed about the charges and what they were doing wasn't right, that I'd never received any information regarding the membership, and that I wanted the $76.70 credited back to me. The lady was very friendly about the situation even though I was not. I'm sure they get this all the time. She told me that the money was being credited back to my account and that my information would be out of the system once the credit occured.

BEWARE IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING PURCHASING THROUGH NEWPORT NEWS!!!!

Today is Oct. 28, 2011 and I just realized the same thing has been happening to me for TWO YEARS. "Membership Services" is only refunding two months' payments of $14.95 each. How do I get the rest of my money back???

I am so angry.

Same thing happened to me. I just noticed the $14.95 has been taken out monthly for 2 years! I called & the girl told me they would refund 2 months, I demanded the full amount or I would call an attorney. She transferred me to someone else who offered another monthy, I told him the same thing. Finally, I got his manager and she said they would reimburse half, I said ok return that & I am still getting an attorney. She was quite nasty & was saying that it was all there in black & white, which it was not, and I never received anything in the mail. I told her to return the money & would contact an attorney.

I too am a victim of Newport News and their fraudulant programs. They claim to have nothing to do with it and stated that I needed to contact the company, called "Membership Services" directly, which I did. Their number is 1-877-498-7283. I spoke with "Alex Watson" who stated he is with Consumer Affairs. He stated that he would credit me back the amount that was stolen from me via these crooks. He told me that they got my information from Newport News. Avoid this company like the plague! They steal your information and your money.

I have finally discovered that the $14.95 charge to my credit card for the last six months was to Newport News. The statement read REGENT with an incomplete phone number of 1-877-498-728 The fourth digit was missing. I disputed the charge with my credit card company but no one could tell me the source of the charge. I finally cancelled my credit card.

Today I received yet another letter from my credit card company about a pending charge. I was able to get the information about the Newport News Insider charges. I am very disappointed in Newport News. I will now attempt to rectify this scam. I will not be so eager to purchase online again!

My husband just discovered the charge from Insider Pass. We have been paying $14.95/mo for 16 months! I called Encore Mkt @877-518-7283 only to speak with 3 different reps. The last person I talked to (Heather) said she was the end of the line and could reimburse only 3 months worth. I spent 15 minutes ranting with achieving no different result. She gave me an address for Insider Pass and said I could write a complaint. I'm sure that will go nowhere. Anyway the address is: Insider Pass PO Box 280 Blue Ridge Summit, PA 17214. Good luck.

I too had the same exact problem having no clue what this Insider Pass was and why I was being charged. A call to Newport News quickly revealed that it was actually a different company that used pop up ads during check-out with the heading "save more money" or something like that. If you click on it you are automatically signed up. ANOTHER phone call to this other company, (Encore), was like above, with the option to cancel or talk to a rep. We got the charges (4 months worth) credited back to our card, but what a frickin' pain! Newport News should NOT allow this scam company to post pop ups and until they stop, I imagine they will continue to have this problem. If you buy from Newport News, DO NOT click on anything other than your checkout, and you shouldn't have this happen to you. DON'T click on any pop-ups!

Im so glad this was posted. I ordered from Newport News in May of 09 and just realized i was being charged since the following month of june. I am going to call on Monday and RAISE HELL!!!!!!! Im beyond pissed because i did like their store but thsi scam completely ruined it for them. I will NEVER AGAIn order from Newport News. This is a lame ploy to make money and they are going to loose alot of business. I plan on telling anyone and everyone i know that they are a company with no ethics if they did not mak eit obvious that they are ripping people off. I too did not get any notification in the mail in regards to being charged and the fact that they do not bill you they just take it out of your account makes it worse. They are no better then a computer hacker that steals your card number.

My wife run into the same problem. A quick Google search reveals a lot of similar cases. I would avoid Newport News from now on. This is not a credited store for me anymore.
