Sold a sick pet

Manx kitten Homes Alive Pet Centre 910 3rd Avenue South Lethbridge, Al T1J0H9 CA On Sept 07 Homes Alive Pet Centre sold a Manx kitten with what they called a "minor eye irritation". They gave polysporin as treatment. The buyer should have been wary but took the kitten home. The "irritation" did not get worse but it did not clear up so the buyer took the kitten to a vet on October 15. The vet gave drops and told the buyer to return in 2 weeks. At the second visit (October 27) the vet diagnosed the kitten. The cornea of the eye had permanent scarring from past trauma (a severe eye infection) caused by either feline chlamydia or herpes. The infection would have happened several months ago, prior to the kitten being sold. The kitten was too young to be sexually active so it was determined that the chlamydia or herpes was passed from the mother cat. The scarring has limited the sight in both eyes and has also caused reduced tear duct activity so the cat is susceptible to future infections. Neither chlamydia or herpes can be cured so the cat will suffer with the disease for the rest of its life. The buyer went back to Homes Alive but they refused to take accountability for selling a sick cat, despite evidence from the veterinarian. The scarring on the eye was clearly visible and the seller must have known about the past infection that caused the damage to the cornea because it was treated at some point before it was sold. The seller simply took care of the initial infection and sold the cat despite the damaged eye and the chlamydia/herpes. This seller needs to be accountable. It is illegal to sell diseased animals. It is also irresponsible and cruel to sell animals from bad breeders or pet mills.
