I went to the dealer to pick up a 2010 RAV4. When I arrived the dealer said that they made a mistake and the car they had was a 2009. The dealer then asked me for a $500 deposit on a 2010 RAV4 and said he could not give me the sales price since he didn't have it. The next day I told the dealer that I wanted the full pricing information. The dealer refused to provide it and so I bought the car at another dealer. Now James Toyota will not refund my $500 deposit.

Sue James toyota in Small Claims. You are likely to win. And post your story on multiple web sites. James toyota is greedy but not stupid. Complain to nj AG's office also. Make them spend time in court and with attorney general. They ripoff customers with overpriced service too.

I feel it is my obligation to provide the full story, rather than bits and pieces. It is true that we misinformed the customer about having a 2010, but we did have a 2009 exactly the same as what he wanted, simple mistake. We offered to locate the customer a 2010 with the same options, but we would require a $500 non-refundable deposit as a commitment to buy. This is because it does take some legwork to get the vehicle, and since we were already settled on a lease payment and vehicle, it did not present an issue at the time. We did receive an email request to provide the customer with full details on pricing information, to which multiple employees called multiple times and left multiple messages to provide the requested information. The customer did not return or answer any of the calls, and decided to purchase the vehicle elsewhere after we had already retrieved the vehicle. The customer had also been informed that while he could cancel the order, the deposit is non-refundable on more than one occasion, as well as signing the contract that states in large capital bold letters, DEPOSIT NON-REFUNDABLE. We take pride in our customer service, and try to provide the best experience possible.
