Best Buy: Thinking of becoming an employee? Think twice!
|
Best Buy Canada 810 St. James Street Winnipeg, Ma CA This is a post to anyone who considers working at Best Buy. I'd like to let you know about my experience, to see how a company treats one of its employees. I got hired last year to work as a seasonal employee in Winnipeg, Canada. The interview I had was fine. Originally I was hired in Home Theater without even given consideration for a dept that I would want to work in which was media. I was placed in a dept I had limited knowledge in without even being thought of. When I started work, I expected to be trained as I had been in my previous jobs with someone showing me the ropes for a few days. I was in for a shock! I spent the next 10 days doing computer quizzes as my training. I was not pleased by that because sitting in front of a cpu trying to learn for me is not training. I was then put out on the floor to start sales of tv's. I wasn't trained properly on how to use the registers in the area so every time I'd ring up a sale, I'd have to ask for help. As everyone who's shopped at BB or Future Shop in Canada, the service plans are a scam. When I was in my training meeting, the staff told us that, the service plans where the way the store actually makes money. After working their for Christmas, I pass on to everyone I can to stay away from those plans like the plague! Also I was told that I would have a choice in staying on after the season was over. I was so wrong! After Christmas was up I got let go! I saw some really stiff salesmanship at BB by , some associated even my supervisor in HT, nearly not selling a gentleman 3 tv's because he wouldn't take the service plan. Lastly in HT, I also came across several associates and a manager talking with their hands cupped to one another's ear trying to talk privately out on the floor. This made me feel uncomfortable, and I then thought "now I'm being used!" I then went to the woman I spoke to in my interview and said I'd like a change in departments to work better. That request was granted. My last dept, was in Geek Squad with computers. I enjoyed that move much better than in HT cuz I was able to grasp things better and actually do my job which was regular setups. However there was still a snag that made me upset in that dept. Just after I heard that a family member of mine was ill, I didn't know if I'd have to go to their house for Christmas or not. I'd been scheduled to work Boxing day, but I didn't know If I'd have to leave that shift or not. I tried finding someone to talk to about that matter. I kept getting told 4 times to go talk to someone else other than who I was talking to! I hate when you can't communicate with any staff and they won't talk to you. That really pissed me off! After I finished on Boxing Day, I was told I was done and maybe would get a call to return in the spring. It's been 10 months since I left working at BB and really don't want to return. They along with Future Shop in Canada are run by the same company. I had an interview with FS in the spring, but was not hired after an interview. I urge anyone who shops at either of these places to not buy anything big there because you are getting scammed the moment you step in the door! Only buy CD's and DVD's their if you must. If you even want to buy something bigger, buy it online where you won't get haggled for not wanting the service plans! If your thinking of working at either business, think twice! I've told you my horror stories, now would you want anything like that to happen to you? Stay away from these "businesses" that "aim" towards the customer and their staff when in fact their cheating you out of your time, money and effort! This review has been written from a former employee who's seen what goes on in these types of businesses and wants people to know and go someplace else!
