I also have an emachine w3503, went through the same thing with thier outsourced jerks, also tried buying a restore disk online from restore disk.com, waste of money, thier disk doesn`t work either, had to buy a new PC, if it`s made by acer or emachine aka gateway DONT BUY IT !

I have the same problem with an emachine W3503, was never able to get a solution to the problem, the recovery CD does not work, and the Windows boot disk does not work, as for support, it has all been outsourced, and there is where the problem lies!

I have had the same problems with Acer customer service, My laptop is a week old and after one use the cd/dvd drive didn't work, May I add this was after an automatic windows update.....so I have been on the phone for over 4 hours today, Acer and Dhl, trying to arrange an authorised collection for repair....what a palava....I have been passed from pillar from post left right forwards and backwards, all to no avail. Acer were the most unhelpful customer service I have ever experienced!!! They would not take responsibilty for the machine, telling me it's under warranty but "at your cost to postage and repaired".....(indian telephone sales) so you can imagine my frustration as the machine is only a week old!!! He and she clearly told me "it a software failure you send it back and we fix" so ok another few hours of crap!!!! Anyway I HAVE GOOD NEWS!!!!


I got fed up of being shoved around and looked into it further myself, there is a simple fix for this problem, the upper and lower filters need to be deleted, it's an old problem with all comps and lappy's but it works and I am now using my drive!! SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND EXPENSE OF DEALING WITH ACER OR REPLACING AND TRY THIS FIRST!!!
