Sears check payment policy
|
Sears US If you want to have check payments at Sears processed in the traditional way, forget about it. Without any advance notification or announcement to the public, all Sears stores have changed their policies and will convert all checks to e-checks at the cash register. Signs at the cash register proclaim in bold print that checks are welcome---then in tiny print below, point out that they will be electronically converted on the spot. There is no opt out provision. Customers who don't agree to this conversion will be unable to purchase merchandise or make payments with a paper check at Sears. This is a horrible policy change, and the corporate big-wigs who came up with it should be ashamed. Unless it's a small purchase that I can pay for in cash, Sears has now lost my business. Looks like a lot of big chains are doing the same thing. WalMart, Office Depot, Auto Zone, Meijer, and I hear KMart is about to join them. I'm with you. If they can't handle checks like they used to, they don't need my business. Serves them right if they go bankrupt.
