Gardner White Has Bad Customer Service

Zen Bedroom Set Gardner White 21001 Groesbeck Hwy Warren, MI 48088 US www.gardner-white.com In March 2009 my grandmother purchased a bedroom set for me and my fiance. When we ordered it we asked that all the pieces remain in the boxes since we wouldn't be moving for a while. The bedroom set was delivered promptly, however the damaged pieces were not in boxes. The delivery men said that they had just taken it out of the boxes before they left because it was easier to carry, I accepted that answer since I didn't think they would give me damaged furniture. We asked the delivery men to place the bedroom furniture in the basement since my fiance and I were not going to be using the furniture for several months. When the Gardner White delivery men brought in the furniture I noticed that the dresser had indentations on the bottom of the front panel. I noted it to them and they said that the furniture was supposed to look distressed. Not remembering what the bottom of the dresser had looked like in the store I thought, "Well he wouldn't lie to me, so I guess it must look distressed." The delivery guys placed all the furniture very strategically so that I wouldn't see any of the flaws while it was being stored. When I went to move the furniture last month I noticed all the damage. Before we moved the furniture out of the house I called the Gardner White store on Hall Rd. where the receptionist, Judy, tried to help me but only upset me more when she told me that their furniture doesn't come from the manufacturer in boxes, it's just shipped as is. The only time she was helpful was in letting me know that the manager Connie would get back with me ASAP. After quite a while we moved the furniture and brought it to the store which was not far from the place we were moving it to. The manager told me there was nothing she could do for me and she gave me the number of a Ms. Preston at the main office. Connie was rude and told me she couldn't believe me when I said that the furniture had come damaged. She sent out one of her service technicians, Gary, and he took pictures and left. The next week I got in contact with Connie to see what the outcome of the pictures was and she said she couldn't exchange my furniture (only the dresser and one bedside table is damaged) and that I would have to take the matter higher. All the while she kept mentioning that the damage couldn't have been done by Gardner White and that I must have done the damage myself. To me that is calling me a liar. I called Ms. Preston and left 2 messages the week of June 22nd and heard nothing for the past 2 weeks. Today, 7/6/09, I called Ms. Preston and she told me there was nothing she could do for me. She told me that even though the furniture wasn't used or even looked at on a daily basis I should have called sooner than 3 months. I asked her, "If I had been raped 3 months ago and went to the police would they tell me there was nothing they could do for me?" She said no, but there was still nothing she could do for me. She also said she couldn't believe what I was telling her and when I asked her to talk with the delivery men she said that the delivery men wouldn't remember what they said 3 months ago. I asked if I could speak with someone higher up and she said she was the highest person. I told her that there had to be someone else. I asked to speak with the president of the company and she told me the president doesn't talk to customers. I just would like the 2 damaged pieces exchanged and they have no desire to help me.
