Improper credit card closure
|
Lowes credi card GEMB/Lowes PO Box 981064 El Paso, TX 79998 US gemoney.com My complaint is that GEMB inappropriately cancelled my Lowes card after 10 years of frequent use and in good standing. They did not send a notification to my current address, and indicated that the reason for this action was my credit report. This account was in good standing (pmts. current and not above card limit) until March 2009 when I found out the card had been cancelled and told GEMB that I would not pay the balance, without late fees, until the card is reinstated. This continues to be my position On my 15-page credit report from Experian, the only negative item was with Hyundai which is the loan for my son's car. I acknowledge that this loan has had a late payment history. The rest of the report indicates NEVER LATE for the remaining items include-ing, ironically, FIVE other previous cards from GEMD!! These cards were paid off and closed. It seems ill-advised to target consumers who have, in general, good credit reports at a time when the government is trying to jump-start the economy. The rational is skewed when one considers that corporations, including financial institutions, are requesting bail-out money to cover problems caused by poor business practices. Where is the fairness towards the average consumer? GEMB is guilty of predatory business practices, and it is interesting to note that there are numerous complaints against GEMB on the internet; just Google "GEMB credit card complaints" to view.
