Target Sold My Family a USED System

My parent's purchased and XBox 360 for my 17 year old autistic brother for Christmas from Santa. They bought it at a Target store in Schaumburg, IL while my dad was in the area for business since they actually live in a small town in central Illinois. Christmas morning he opens it and is so excited that Santa brought him what was on his list but when we go to set it up we find that it is someone's USED system inside. The controller had someone's initials written on it permament marker in two different areas and was dirty and the console was damage and scuffed up and broken! Of course we can't use it and so for the next 24 hours he is upset and can't calm down because he can't understand the situation. Our Family's entire Christmas Day was spent reassuring him that Santa wasn't mad at him and that we would get it fixed as soon as possible, but that does very little to settle someone with autism and obsessive-compulsive disorder. What does Target do? They tell us they'll exchange it out, but other than that nothing! So we drive over an hour one way the day after Christmas to exchange this unit (oh yea, but they insist that we MUST have the receipt..we DID!) and one of their managers has the audacity to treat us like we did something wrong. She refused to speak to us, she wouldn't apologize and blew us off completely. Then Target Corporate won't even look into the issue or offer any type of apology, nonetheless make an restitution for the fact that WE had to make an EXTRA TRIP out to fix THEIR MISTAKE. In this economy you'd think a Big Box store would treat their customer's a little bit better.

I'd also like to add:

The Box was sealed with a sticker and it DID NOT appear to have EVER BEEN OPENED! The employee at Target pulled it out of a locked cabinet. It was in mint condition. We had no reason to ever question that it had been opened. AND since Target's POLICY is to have someone from electronics check every return and NOT take back open items that have been used we had NO REASON NOT to believe that this wasn't a NEW ITEM!
