Company denied reimubursement of 20 years unused premiums

Conseco accident policy Conseco 11815 N Pennsylvania Street Carmel, IN 46032-4555 US www.conseco.com I have had this accident policy 20 years and never used it. Company was to reward all unused premiums. I'm not sure about the policy # anymore. When the policy began it was with Capitol American which we know was purchased by Conseco. In 2005 an agent, Kevin Davis, agent #61613, came to our home, along with an associate, to "give" us more coverage for 10 cents more per month. My wife and I seriously questioned agent and he assured us there were no issues and everything was on the up and up. Not once did he EVER declare he was writing a new policy and that we would lose money if we didn't extend policy 20 more years. Why would someone want to extend something ending in 3 years you would be fully reimbursed for (according to them) Well, now we find that is what happened according to the company. We stopped payment on the January payment because the policy ended and that was advice given to my wife in November or December when she called the company regarding how to "end" the policy and get our money. The 20 years was up in December 31. Now we have been given a checkbook with $8600+ and not once was this policy used. In 2001 my wife was told at the end of the 20 years we would be given approximately $11,000+ for all the premiums paid over 20 years that were never used. The company told me 01/26/09 that I was sent a new policy when we paid the additional 10 cent premium. Again, I repeat we were NEVER told or shown all was being rewritten. When my wife questioned agent in 2005, he looked at his associate and said, "Why would you not want more coverage for 10 cents more per month?" My wife said, "In the insurance business and other businesses nothing is for free." He assured and guaranteed we were just getting more coverage and that that is all that was happening. The company also told me on 01/26/09 Mr. Kevin Davis no longer works there! Agent never told us or showed us we were basically starting over. We had a bank draft done for 17 years for $47.80 then $47.90 for the past 3. We truly feel we have been duped. We did get papers saying "new policy", on the envelope, but the paperwork says "amendment". Please guide and/or direct us as to what to do. I am sending a letter to the administrative section of this company. When you call them you get a runaround if you can talk to anyone at all. An agent also called in Jan. (before any of this started) to set up an appointment, on a Saturday evening, just out of the blue, and I told him unless he was bringing a check he was wasting his time but set up 5:30 as a time to meet. The agent never called or came! The next week we received and signature card for a certified letter delivered to the post office. When we got the "letter" it was a checkbook from the company with a balance of $8676.82. All this with the agent calling in January was before we stopped payment or received the checkbook. We have no idea what that circumstance was all about. We should have over $11,000.00! We feel we can't ignore nearly $3000.00. Please help us we are hard working farmers just trying to do what is right. I did check out the Consumer Affairs website and found SEVERAL complaints with Conseco. I've also written the company and the BBB. The company is deceptive. Every time we have called, which has been 4, over the years, we have been told something completely differently regarding how to end the policy. on 02/21/09 rec'd letter stating we were 3 mos. behind in premiums. Last premium was paid in December. Time passed since then is not 3 months. On 02/23/09 received a letter dated 02/20/09 mailed from Indiana and wanting a reply by 02/22/09 (this date is one day before we received the letter). In essence they mailed a letter from IN to OK and expected a response and it mailed back and them receive it in 2 days!! All we want are the 20 years premiums back, not 17!
