I recently received notification that Chase Bank was taking over my VISA account from Washington Mutual and raising my rate all the way up to 26.99% as of March 1, 2009 which is like a default rate. I cancelled the card since I have been a good customer and always been in good standing (i.e., never been late and never missed a payment) and didn't understand why they would raise my rate to such a high percentage. I haven't used the card since before I cancelled it and was under the available balance when I closed the account. Their interest charge caused my account to go over-the-limit by $7.31 and they immediately charged me a $39.00 over-the-limit fee. When I called their customer service, they were rude to me and told me since I had closed the account, they weren't going to do anything for me (in other words, get lost! WaMu intends to rob me of every dime they can get out of me). Like I already stated, I have never missed a payment or even been late with a payment and this is how they treated me! Beware of Chase or Washington Mutual! They have terrible customer service and they are thieves!!! And, to think that I was going to open a checking account with them. I'll never consider having another Washington Mutual (WaMu) or Chase account ever again!!!

I completely agree. They are the worst company ever in terms of customer service. I just found out they reduced my credit limit on one of my credit cards by $4000. The credit limit was originally $8000 and has been for years. It was fine when that card was close to being maxed out, and I was paying them loads of interest every month. But I recently was able to make a large payment on that account and bring my balance to $0. A month later they decided to slice my credit limit in half. And every Customer Service Rep I talked to today (including 2 so-called supervisors) just repeated the same information over and over like robots. I'm considering cutting up every single one of my Chase cards and closing my Chase checking because of the awful customer service. They are TERRIBLE!!!

All, repeat ALL, credit companies act this way. Their business practices alone are enough to see this. They charge consumers AND business... effectively getting paid twice for the same service. They even take percentages of TIPS for servers, cabbies, whatever... people who make LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE!!!

And yet, people still have this concept of 'good' customer vs. 'bad' customer. Stories like this, and there are millions, kinda shed some light on that eh? How many huge lines of credit did they write for corporations and good buddies that they're now off-loading to taxpayers?

Pay your moral debts first. Friends and family who helped you out one way or another. Shop around for the best rates and if you can get your family behind you so they see it as one big package they're competing for and if they don't satisfy you THREATEN TO GO WITH DEBIT. Time to put these punks in their place. They usually act as though they have NO concept that we're actually their CUSTOMERS and pay their salaries. Time the credit system had the carpet yanked out from under them and get TOLD how things are going to be.

My own story was different but suffice to say that when I was laid off of a job I was a little late with a couple of payments (was with them for over 5 years and never missed, always made more than minimum etc) and was told when I complained about their attitude that it 'doesn't matter if you've been with us 5 years or 50 years'.

How's that for a quick summation of their attitude toward their customers?
