Sprint sent me to collections

Sprint
US

1 I used Sprint for over two years and did not have a single problem with them. The problem occurred when I was not using them. I had canceled my service around Feb. 2008 and I payed off whatever money I still owed. Then around in June I asked them to turn my number on so they could port it out to a different carrier. They did this without a problem but soon after that I received a monthly bill. I called them and reported the mistake and they politely removed the charge and said it would not happen again. It did and I had to call a few more times to remove the charge and correct the problem. I ended up missing a few bills after a long time of sick of dealing with them until I received a letter threatening to send me to collections. I immediately called around Sept. and after 2 hours and talking to several departments explaining my story they said they removed the charges and finally removed me from their system so I would not be charged again. It wasn't until Jan. 2009 when I was on vacation outside of the country that I received another letter threatening me to pay my bill otherwise I would be sent to collections. I replied to the email explaining to them that this charge is a mistake and I cold not call them because I was outside of the country. When I returned to home in Feb. I received a letter telling me I had been sent to a collection agency for $196. At this point I sent a complaint about wrongfully sending me to collections to the Better Business Bureau. I decided to call Sprint up to see if I could clear this up. I first called the credit department and the lady said that I had to pay a termination fee. I explained to her that I never activated my phone nor did I renew the contract and I had no idea that porting a number required you to start a new contract and would not pay the $150 for the termination fee. I was getting nowhere with her so I asked to speak to her manager. She put me on hold for 20 min and when she returned she said she talked to all the departments and I had to pay the termination fee plus late fees of $196. I asked again to talk to her manager and she replied with he can't do anything. I asked again and she transferred me to a dead line. I called back and happened to get the same person and told her she transferred me to a dead line and would still like to speak to her manager and she transferred me to the same dead line. I called back a third time and got another representative and she transferred me to her manager. I talked to her supervisor and explained to him what happened that a Latisha was very unprofessional and he seemed indifferent. He knew who she was and passed it off that she probably made a mistake. It was not important to me to get this girl in trouble so I accepted it. When I asked him about the fees and the collection problem he made sure I talked to the correct department which was the cancellation department. When I talked to them I immediately requested to talk to a manager. I told the manager the story and he apologized and said he can take off the termination fee and the late charges but I would have to pay the activation fee of $26. I said, "nobody told me there was an activation fee. I would not have ported my number if there was." He said, "The charge is too old for them to take it off and they could only see 2 months back in the charges." I explained to him that they removed all the charges I had previously, none of the bills I received ever had an activation charge on it, and I would not pay the $26, also Sprint has screwed up on my otherwise perfect credit. I had never had a late charge, I pay all my bills on time and had never been sent to collections. His reply was, "I'm sorry we wrongfully reported you to a credit agent but I can only take off the termination fee." I told him it wasn't enough and he said I will still have to pay the activation fee and he told me he was writing these instructions to charge me the activation fee on my profile notes. At that point I cursed him and slammed the phone down. I know that was childish but I was furious.
