BellSouth/At&T

Phone Company
US

I have had home phone service with AT&T before it split and became BellSouth. I had problems with them from time to time about charges but always seemed to work it out. About 5 years ago when my ex stopped paying for our son's cell, I combined it with my BellSouth account. When I combined the service, the company started charging me $50 more a month on the cell portion of the bill. I had DSL with Bellsouth but kept having problems. The explanation they gave me that I was 500 ft outside the maximum effective range of the hub????? When my contract for the cell and DSL was up, I called and canceled both services. I was continually charged for the DSL and charged $350 because BellSouth said my contract was not over. Cingular verified it was over. The total bill soon climbed to over $1100. I made extra payments even though my son had exorbitant medical bills. I soon had the bill down to $400. I got a letter from a lawyer's office trying to collect the debt. I called, made arrangements to pay the debt. I owed $190 or so when another lawyer sent me a letter for the remainer. I called the first lawyer and they said they no longer did business with BellSouth. I contacted the second lawyer and paid the final $190. This took place just before AT&T consolidated again. Bellsouth changed the id number on the account by one digit and now I am without a home phone because they refuse to listen to reason. One person even called the lawyers and found I had paid the $400 but because the one digit was changed, I'm screwed. I will have to increase my cell bill just to be able to keep in touch with my elderly mother who lives alone. The commercials are right about how the "Phone Company" will charge you for anything and everything.
