expensive stainless steel kettle but cheap inside

I purchased this very expensive water kettle hoping that I would not have to buy another one for a long time . It was less than 2 years old and all of the other really cheap plastic kettles that I have ever bought lasted longer than this.

It was hardly used (less than once a day) and now the switch to turn it on is broken and the company

(applica) tells me that I am out of luck if I have no receipt. I want to fix it so I don't have to throw it away and they won't allow that either.
