Mercury outboard fuel pump
|
Mercury outboard four stroke 60 HP US I bought a New Mercury outboard four stroke 60 HP along with a new Crest pontoon boat in 2003. We only have 157 hours on the motor. It broke down again with no fuel delivery and only works if you keep squeezing the bulb to limp back to the dock. It first failed shortly after the warantee ran out and Mercury paid for a new fuel pump. It failed again two years later and the tow, labor, and parts were on me. It has now failed again and all symptoms point to the fuel pump. Needles to say, I am fed up with Mercury quality. It has and is costing me hundreds of dollars for repairs on a new motor. The service line gave me a song and dance about letting the fuel set so long since I don't run the motor that much. I have let Evinrude motors set for years and they fire up and run just fine. Mercury will not assist in defraying part of the cost of repairs. I wonder if other boaters have had this problem From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Monday, 03-Aug-09 15:35:12 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI have had the same problem with my Crest Pontoon boat with a 60 hp bigfoot....the first summer I bought it I had the same problem...The problem is the ethanol in the gas...its eating away the diaphragm in the fuel pump...Its a $15-$20 part very easy to fix....You need to use the blue colored stabilizer do not use the red bottle...
