Avoid J & D Painting

The job was to scrape, prime, paint and caulk an outside porch. The contract stipulated that the porch was to be scraped. However, the only scraping that was done was when I was present (5 minutes). Layers of paint that were ready to come off (peeling and flaking) were painted over with yet more paint. The worker got paint all over my natural wood ceiling, left me with his garbage to dispose of (paint cans, used roller, paint roller tray, 2 caulk containers, and some loose paint scrapings all dumped into my trash can - who does that??). He also painted areas I explicitly told him not to (I was planning to stain those areas). There are many gaps where caulk wasn't applied, but should have been. There are drips on the parts that were painted as well as on the floor below. When I complained about all of this to the owner he said he would come by to take a look. Well, he suddenly had to go on vacation, then he was going to come in the morning (which I couldn't do), I asked him to come another day, in the afternoon and I would wait for him. I asked him to let me know if he couldn't come, but never receiving a call I waited almost 2 hours. The owner informed me that the next time he would come with the worker in the morning (which I had previously told him I couldn't do). I was amazed he never asked when it would be convenient for me. After a month of being jerked around, I gave up. He sent me a bill for the entire amount as well as an e-mail from the worker stating that it was "fully scraped". He also billed me for 4 containers of caulk when there were only 2 in my trash can (why leave me with 2 and take 2 away?). The owner is a master manipulator and scam artist and his worker has no work ethic and not an ounce of conscience in him. Avoid like the plague!!
