Walmart I Am NOT A Thief

Purchased DVD Movies
Walmart
Apopka, Fl
US

The date is wrong, but this happened and I am hoping Walmart changes their policy..It was a busy shopping day toward Christmas..we had just begun shopping..no items in our cart..our first stop was the elctronics dept. we wanted to get some dvds..we picked out 4 dvds two were dvd sets about $40 a piece..the movies were $25 a piece..we placed them in our cart over $100 in total not counting tax..there was a line that stretched out around the entire length of the Elect. dept. into the shoes dept. we walked around the lines because we were not ready to leave yet..suddenly a walmart Employee jumps out at me scaring me silly I actually jumped, grabs my arm and yells "you have to pay for those movies here" I informed her we were not done with our shopping, she tightened her grip on my arm and said "you still have to pay for them here" I looked over at the long lines and said "like hell" I handed her the two dvd sets back and the two single movies..she made a face and said "don't you still want them?" I turned and said no we don't have time to stand in line twice..keep them! Then we walked away..I realize they have to protect themselves against theft, but my Partner and I are returning customers..acting as if everyone they come in contact with are thieves is very insulting..I for one do not appreciate it..I did end up getting both sets and both movies later, but not at Walmart..and we paid alot less for them! Btw we did find two movies up front in the 2 for $10 bin..we decided if they asked us to go to the electronic dept to pay for them we would just set them aside too, but happily they let us pay upfront for them...I should add when that Employee grabbed my arm she came close to getting her lights punched out, first by me then by my Partner...it is soo not a good idea to grab someone like that!

I work in retail and I beg to differ on one point. Yes, we are bound to honor advert prices which includes bins and shelves, or else everyone could get away with what is called "bait and switch" and that does happen alot, however there are some store managers that refuse to "do the right thing"..when a store hides behind "someone put it in the wrong place", or it "was mispriced" then that is bait and switch...pure and simple! When I as a shopper comes across that excuse I put back my merchandise and so "no thanks"..they count on customers paying the full price because they don't want to look cheap, but the facts are if you say no thanks then you are not cheap, you just don't want to be cheated by the store or it's employees!

Also, if there are several copies of a movie in that bin, then it is the stores fault not the fault of customers carrying movies around and just looking for a convient place to put the movies..

To the original complain: What we are complaining about here is a bad employee. Does this employee represent a good portion of wal-mart's employees? Probably not. It of course depends on what store you're at but generally the employees are a bit more caring then that.

To the response of incorrectly priced dvds. Wal-mart is NOT obligated to sell you the movies at the wrong price. There is no law for that. With high volume retailers and "dump bins" there is a large amount of customers who carry all types of dvds and return them to the $5 bin. Wal-mart can't watch every customer doing this and it causes confusion but it's not a responsibility they are required to honor. Now, in some cases it may be good customer service to give the price to the customer, but most definitely not required.

However, as you've found out, basically if you complain enough, they will give you just about anything and make you feel like you're in the right.

I am soo furious I can barely see straight! I was picking through the $5.00 dvd bin first a rather rude customer was standing next to me also going through the bin she kept pushing unwanted dvds in front of me causing me to lose 2 dvds I wanted to look at..I finally retrieved them and was reading the description on the back of one of the dvds I was holding when this woman reaches out and snagged the other dvd I was holding..I snapped angrily "what do you think you're doing? then grabbed the dvd back from her she snapped back "I was here first and that's the movie I was looking for". I said tough shit! then read the descriptions on both dvds I was holding I put them in my cart then moved it to my other side she glared at me then stormed off..I then found two other movies I was interested in..I finished my shopping then went to the register..when I placed my dvds on the conveyor belt the first dvd scanned at $7.50 I informed the cashier it was taken from the $5 bin she changed the price for me..the second movie scanned at $9 I told her it also came from the $5 bin she gave me a strange look, but said nothing as she changed the price...the third movie scanned at $13 when I told her it to came from the $5 bin she smirked and said "I suppose all four movies came from that bin"..I snapped back yes they did and if you don't believe me have a look at the security camera aimed at the bin..she rolled her eyes then changed the price..when the 4th movie scanned at $13 also she called the Manager over and told him about the price differences he took all four movies walked over to the bin and I watched as he pulled numerous copies of those same movies from the bin..he then called over an Associate and began ripping him a new one over the movies being in the bin..then he came back over to me and said he would let me have the $7.50 movie and the $9.00 movie for $5, but I would have to pay the full price for the 2 $13 movies...before I could say anything a Gentleman informed the Manager "legally he is bound to honor the $5 price since the mistake was theirs not mine"..he asked that Man who he thought he was butting in and he said with a smile "a Lawyer" that shut the Manager up. He then informed the Cashier to let me have all 4 movies for $5 each, but no one else! I thanked that Guy paid for my movies and now when Walmart tries to get out of honoring a pricing mistake I bring up that law and no one disputes it!! The only reason I argue that point now is because the Cashier tried to make it look like I was running a scam and lying abut the dvd prices!!

i am a walmart employee, it is walmart policy that you can not grab or touch a customer even if you think they are stealing. AP/LP has to do the stop only if they see you put it in something. a assosiate can be terminated for doing that.
