Stolen Email Account

My email account was stolen and I cannot find any place to report it. I have tried to locate a hotmail complaint or contact address and I have not been able to find one. I have called the FBI and was told to contact my local police dept. and the police dept. told me they did not have the facilities to handle Internet problems.

They told me to contact the nearest KBI Office and I did. Their Investigator was out of the office until next week.

They told me to call the Attorney General's Office. He was out too.

My family and friends are getting emails saying that "I" am stranded in London and for them to send money, $2,200 by Western Union so I can come home. I have no way of contacting some of them as my only contact was by email and all their addresses went with the stolen account.

I cannot even find a place that I can alert other victims to the Scam that got me.

After much searching over days, I finally found this site and even it may not do me any good, maybe it might help someone else.

The Scam that got me was purported to be from "Hotmail". It said something to the fact that they were up-dating the program and in order to keep from deleting my account, they needed my email data so they could make sure that my account would not be deleted with the other "defunct" accounts.

I gave them the information and the next day when I tried to access my email no matter what I did, I could not get into my email.

Then my cousin called me to find out what was going on and told me she had received an email and its contents.

I, imediately contacted the few people whose email address I knew - to alert them.

There needs to be a place that people can contact to be able to report email scams. Most of the suggestions from Hotmail's information told me to log into my account and go to the help tab, but if your email account is gone, how can you do that? As well as to report the scam and show the proof that disappeared with your email account.

The same thing happened to me more than a year ago except that the email that went to my contact that i was stranded in south Africa, i think because of the soccer world cup and the person who stole my account discovered that i am a soccer fan. the good thing all of my friends and family members knew that my email was hacked. since then i have been going back and forth with msn and every time they will ask for something for me to prove who i am but the real thief he is out there getting away with it.

I am having the exact same thing happen to me. got the email they are updating accounts and I was stupid and put in my information, then a couple days later people calling me to see if I was stranded in Scotland. They even shut me out of my face book. Yahoo has been no help and has not closed the account, face book closed my account instead of just allowing me to change my password. But like you I lost all of my contacts. But to make matters worse, i emailed myself and the guy answered back, asking me how much money I would offer him to leave my account alone. before that I had my son who was on my contact list reply to him and he gave him the western union number and address to send money. But, yet no one seems to be able to do anything about this guy. So, that's what keep thme doing this and making a good living from it. Sucks, I've had this email for several years, and had saved mails in there from a friend that had passed. I guess the bad people can get away with anything these days.

I had somewhat of a similar issue. Someone must have stolen my ID/password to my email account and also had my credit card info. The purchased all sorts of "interesting" things and did a lot of other "shady" things with my email as well. It was an account that I rarely used so this went on for almost 2 years or so before I discovered it and the charges. A lot of damage was done but I at least finally shut the account down and changes all my credit card info etc. I'm worried that they have my SS# but I have a credit watch service that emails me anytime there is a transaction that impacts my credit history.
