Home Depot Kitchen Refacing

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing
Home Depot / US Remodelers
Vista, CA
US

I went to Home Depot because I thought I would be "safe" and they were a retailer I could trust. How wrong was I. They sent a smooth talking salesman out to the home "to measure". I had no intention of signing a contract but he made a big deal about how good the prices are, that refacing costs half of what it does to get new cabinets and I could get a discount only if I signed that day. If I waited till the next day, no discount. I never fall for this stuff but I thought I was dealing with Home Depot and I could trust them so I signed because remodeling was so confusing and he made it sound so easy. I also thought the price was good because it was about what my neighbor just spent on an identical kitchen. I was wrong though as I later found out my neighbor got the refacing AND granite AND plumbing for the price I paid just for refacing) The salesman also told me that this will all be done in house by Home Depot. That is a lie. Another company named US Remodelers is a subcontractor and does the work, NOT Home Depot. The people at Home Depot won't even help you with it and they tell you to call US Remodelers yourself!

The cabinets look awful. The guy left a huge seam in the middle at eye level. I made him come back and redo it. Then in looking at the cabinets, most of the doors were all hung crooked. They said my cabinets are crooked, not the doors. Well, the old doors were straight...He also did not finish edges or caulk to fill in spaces. Very shoddy work. He was always in a hurry to leave in the afternoons. He also never hauled the old countertops off and left them next to the dumpster which got me a citation. They did come out and redo everything when I complained. But the workmanship is shoddy and the product looks cheap even though they will tell you it is the top of the line. (When the salesman comes he brings a tiny sample and you can't really see how it is going to look) Not only does it look bad but I believe there is deception with their pricing. They cannot tell you how much anything cost or how they arrived at the price of the bid. It is all very suspicious. I since got an estimate from another company and it was 30% less.

Moral of the story, DO NOT THINK YOU ARE DEALING WITH HOME DEPOT BECAUSE THEY SELL SOMETHING THERE. You are not. You are dealing with another company under contract with them.

I also had alot of problems with the Home Depot people on the other things with the remodel, they were very ill informed and the woman I was dealing with at the store was very rude.

Google NBC Los Angeles and then put Home Depot in Search and you will see an investigative series about Home Depot. I wish I had done this before I went there, I never would have used them. They have actual employees stating how US Remodlers over measures and overcharges customers!!

After reviewing you'r comments, I'm grateful that Home Depot is unreliable. I had an appointment scheduled for 10:00 this morning and the estimator didn't show. I called the number I was given from Home Depot and was put on hold........so I held, and held. I finally got through to someone who seemed very surprised that the estimator had not arrived, so he put me on hold to speak with his manager so I held some more. I was told that the manager was given the information and that I would receive a call back when they determined what the hold up was. It's now almost 12:00 I told them I did not want their business.

I worked for them in sales going to customers selling what we are told. Problem is 80% of what they train you to represent winds up being false.

You don't realize it until the operations side of the business starts contradicting what you sold the customers.

They use their own labor. NOT TRUE

they own their own factories. NOT TRUE

the product is not available to purchase except from them. NOT TRUE

Home Depot provides unlimited customer service on issues after work is done. NOT TRUE

IT GOES ON.......

I swear I had to scrub the scum off in the shower for hours each day once your stuck trying to support your family at the same time knowing the products and services are all lies.

Very sleazy hard sell group. That is why all the management is made up of former hard sell salesmen.

Sell that day just like kirby vacuum sales.

Its a rip off

I had a similar experience. My promlem is I didn't notice the refacing on my kitchen cabinets was coming loose until the 2 year waranty had expired. Now US Remodelers say they will correct the dedects at $40 an hour, plus a $75 after waranty fee. I am not happy. This doesn't seem fair. I had Cabinet Masters reface some cabinets 20 years ago and they still look great. I wondered if there was a 'class action law suit' pending against Home Depot or US remodelers?

I wish I had googled and read this about a month ago. I'm stuck in a contract now, that I just tried to get out of, and they are telling me that US Remodelers say it's in production and cannot be canceled. But, I just found out my neighbor got new cabinets (at $200/linear foot + all of the extra special insert drawers), new granite countertops, and all new appliances, for what I'm paying for just re-facing! I'm totally getting screwed here and I don't know how to get out of this. And as you all say here, the Home Depot morons are just saying that it's US Remodelers that are telling them it can't be canceled and that they can't do anything! But the lieing salesman tells you it's all Home Depot and that they guarantee everything and stand behind their product, etc. blah blah blah blah.

I've asked now for an itemized listing of everything I'm supposed to be getting to see how much they are sticking me for. I'm sure they will have another excuse soon for not being able to get me that. Lieing bastards...

I found a website of a law firm that has sued them repeatedly.

I talked with the lawyers there and they have sued them in Texas as well.

I too used Home Depot for refacing my cabinets. It is horriable. I had the same complaints as the above blogger. I had had a man come out to give me a estimate, pressured me and I signed thinking I was getting a good deal. He showed me cabinet samples that dont look like the ones I have and promised me molding. I have never got the molding and the cabinets do not look anything like the ones I ordered. I wanted oak and I got light tan stickers. The cabinets look like they stuck stickers on plywood. The doors look cheap!! They brought out a different design then the ones I ordered but home depot would not replace them either. I paid more then it would cost to get new cabinets. They did not caulk, no plumbing, they bottom of the cabinets were crooked, an I too had a big gap in my corner of the doors. I complained and they came back out and fixed the unfinished edges but never filled in the crack. The corner now in one cabinet is peeling. I called and they said there is nothing they can do since I had it done 2 years ago. My advice is do not use them!!

Hi! I worked for U.S.Remodelers one year and quite because can't see how much people pay for refacing .This is crazy money .For this money you can have a brand new cabinets with counter top and installation .U.S.Remodelers and Home Depot never have own installers only subcontractors .If you lucky you have experienced contractor,if you not.......I worked in Renton Washington and in our shop only me have more then 12 years experience other guys not even one year .Installers like me don't work long for this company because is not paying well and ask you to lie to the costumer (you Home Depot worker, wearing the Home Depot T-shirt ,Show to the costumer US Remodelers badge )Finally US Remodelers have only contractors ho have low experience or no experience at all.

Think how much you paying for job and ho doing this job.I am recommend never have a deal with Home Depot or US Remodelers.Especially in state of Washington because in this state even a manager Amanda McDonalds don't have any experience in refacing and can't answer on your questions.Remember if you have a deal with US Remodelers you paying for work of 15-20 people ho seating in office and doing nothing.Much bater have a deal with small company at least you gonna see ho gonna do your kitchen and belief me you gonna pay for your refacing 50% less.
