United Airlines

My daughter used 1/2 of a round trip ticket from Providence, RI to Portland, OR, where she is going to college. (She had to leave early so we purchased a one way ticket for her.)

I called United before her departure date and was told I had a $175.00 credit. I was going to use it for her return to Portland in June at the end of the school year. I booked the flight and was told that I owed around $50. (Difference in fares and a $100.00 re-booking fee). Anyway I called 4 times and was told that the ticket was taken care of and to wait. I could never get anyone to accept a credit card for the additional charge and I found out why. United never bother to process the credit. My daughter got to the airport and was told that the ticket had not been paid for. She was hit with not only the price of the ticket home but also a $30.00 fee for booking the flight last minute at the airport. I talked to the United agent in Providence and he did wave the fee and a $50.00 baggage fee.

I called United to complain and they sent me a $50.00 voucher. When I went to book a flight for my daughter to return to Providence; they told me I couldn’t use both the credit and the voucher and furthermore the only available flight was one for over $400.00. My daughter was able to book one on United for $150.00. So I told United not to bother.

I am particularly angered by the 4 United agents who lied to me and the additional scam that they could only book the most expensive flight around.

I wouldn’t have even minded the fact that they said that the original ticket was not refundable but the fact that I wasted hours talking to these agents.

It doesn't surprise me that United is having financial difficulties.
