As a Movie Gallery employee of the last year-plus, I have witnessed a lot of underhanded schemes in an attempt for the company to cut corners and save their bacon prior to the restructuring.

They have eliminated all incentive programs (advance orders, special orders, discounts, free rental with points accrued, play on guarrantee, ) AND raised prices!

Their Discount Rental Cards machines routinely add on amounts to purchases, and continue to do so LONG after the problem has been reported multiple times.

The computers rarely EVER accept codes for discounts or credits or coupons; in some cases even adding cost onto a customer's existing total. Again; weeks and even MONTHS later the problems remain unfixed!

This entire past year, myself and several others who requested "EXEMPTION" from federal and local tax withholding did not have our wishes followed. Even though the appropriate federal documents were filled out and filed!

Movie Gallery was in posession of all those monies--presumably to earn some small amount on interest?--and then supposedly turned the money over to the government (we'll see) and is now "unable" to give back the money they wrongfully took!

I'm in contact with both the IRS and the Georgia Department of Revenue to find out my options.

But as Granny always said; for every one bad thing you KNOW someone has done, you can expect there's ten MORE things you don't know about.

Perhaps they should have staved off purchase of a company with millions in debt instead of putting screws to the little peopl with the nickel-and-diming.

Oh, and Movie Gallery makes SURE they only have people working 39 hours a week, so there is no possibility for overtime, health insurance, vacation time, sick leave, etc. Even once you have been trained for a Manager-On-Duty position, the potential raise is only .25cents. (from minimum wage.)

The MOD's here in FL locations don't even get raises. The "friendly" local DM's seem to consider getting "more hours" and "the run of the place" to be a privilege!

Also, the inept DM's and RM I have met are major-league asshats. I once saw the DM in this region attempt to promote the laziest, B.S.-churning employee (though she had a fair song & dance) at the store her in a SW Florida store to "assistant manager" --while the 2 competent long-term employees did all the actual work! All the while getting badmouthed and smeared by the person the DM entertained as a new manager! It was one of the most ridiculous incidences of DM incompetence I have ever seen.

IMO Movie Gallery is a sinking ship displaying it's selfish throes of financial death. It is a company which truly does not care about their clerk employees. They do not give any consideration toward the capabilities of their employees. You can have a managerial-level background, letters of recommendation from former bosses, and they will not bother to consider it. They probably don't even read it.

It is truly a shame we will have to go to Netflix -or --ugh... blockbuster. But Movie Gallery seems determined to suffocate itself with inept people and greedy policies which deter both customers and competent employees.
