Outrageous overdraft fees.

TDBanknorth
21st Avenue
Paterson, Ne 07501

In the past, I have done business with other banks, but I have never experienced anything like what this bank is doing.

I know that if you overdraw your account, there is a $35. fee. This bank charges the fee every five days until you make a deposit.

I've spoken to these cold hearted cut throats and have gotten nowhere with them. I'm a senior citizen, and if I'm not mistaken, it is against federal law to charge overdraft fees on direct deposit Social Security checks. It fell on deaf ears with these people. Since us seniors only get paid once a month, I think this is a rip off on a grand scale and should be stopped. We're talking anywhere between $100. and $200. for the month just in fees if you overdraw your account.

I want every cent this bank stole from me in fees.

I am a small business owner in NJ who has been banking with Commerce since the first branch opened in my area years ago. They were a joy to deal with and had their banking policies clearly stated for the customer.

In the past 2 months I have experienced nightmares with my bank account and the accrual of overdraft and insufficient funds fees.

TD claims that with a small business checking account, all deposits made before 6:00 will be available the following bank day. What they failed to inform me of is that under their new policy, they only release 100 of the deposit for the following day and hold the remaining until they so choose to release it to the account.

It gets better!! When I download my banking to my Quickbooks the following day, the available balance showed the entire deposit made the day before.

Like usual I made my necessary purchases and bill payments going by what the online banking has informed me I have available in my account.

The following day I downloaded my account info once again and discovered $175.00 in overdraft fees. I had to visit my branch and battle these fees. After getting an attitude and being told By Dorothy, the manager of the Manahawkin branch that this is "my fault and I should learn how to balance my books" I managed to get $70.00 of it refunded after being embarrassed in the middle of the bank's open air lobby.

Since the occurrence I have accrued approximately 400-500 dollars more in fees spawning from my original overdraft that never gave me a chance to get back into the positive.

The practices that TD has enacted in the past 2 months are unethical, deceptive and somewhat criminal. There is a pending class action lawsuit against TD for their unethical practices. I encourage all of you who have been harmed by this "bank" to visit this link and become more educated! Http://www.lieffcabraser.com/print/td.htmlTD Banknorth deliberately changed their systems to cash in on overdraft fees. Customers were used to a system that would not allow debits to go through unless there was actual funds in the account, now they have set their system to delay deposits and accelerate debits so that they can assess over draft fees, $35 per incident to be exact. This is a deliberate white collar scheme typical of the banking industry to increase revenues by either using mafia style fees for overdrafts or, ensuring that you keep a sufficient balance in your account so that they can lend your money to someone else and charge interest. The bottom line, America's most convenient bank hooked us all in, made their balance sheet look attractive and then sold out to TD Banknorth for huge profits, with a blatant disregard for the very customers that made it all possible. Just another story of American greed at the little guys expense. Here is a link to an article written by an actual employee of the bank confirming my statement. http://www.lieffcabraser.com/consumer/td.htm

It is obvious that your bank is strictly concerned with their bottom line, and ultimately themselves and shareholders - customers coming in a distant second. I remember, over 10 years ago, a bank I worked with held the terms of the existing account - honoring those of the bank they bought out. The only way they would change is if we closed the account. My advice, for a persistent problem that they refuse to resolve with terms that are acceptable to you, is to contact the Better Business Bureau and provide them with as much detail as possible. I've resorted to this with Tech, Finance, and other companies and their ears perk up shortly thereafter. Good luck.

I signed up for a simply free checking account from TD Banknorth in 2007. This account had no fees, no minimum balances, no atm charges anywhere, etc...All of a sudden, earlier this year they changed all of that, and now they charged me a $15 fee for below the minimum balance and they debited that from my overdraft protection. Is it just me or should they have honored the free checking accts for exising customers and shut them down for new ones?? I think it is crazy that banks can just change the rules on you with no say just to make money on charging clients fees!!!! Stay away from this bank, I will never bank with them again.

I just went through a similar situation with these scam artists! It should not be legal to charge $35 on a $3.50 charge. I am closing my account with bank north and going to a credit union. I am a single mom who lives paycheck to paycheck and money is tight as it is, nevermind charging me $210 in overdraft fees for $35.00 worth of over charges. I want my kids to march infront of banknorth with picket signs saying "thanks for stealing my dinner for the next month!"

BOA charged me $35 overdraft fee for an amount they said was a "hold" on a charge I used my Checkcard as a VISA pmt. Well they immediately withdrew the funds causing the charge even though I immediately deposited a buffer amount to cover it (and then some. On all my paper and online statements, NOTHING shows a balance less than $700.00 they would not reverse the charge!

My husband and I are DONE with TD Bank North. We have had way to manny issues with these outragous over draft fees. When our account has gotton down to only a few dollars they seem to hold a bunch of transactions in the pending just waiting to get you! Our last straw was just today when we were charged $105.00 for overdrafts because of this new policy of charging for pending transactions! We also never saw anything about this policy changing. And WHY if ONE transaction makes you overdraft are they charging for EVERYTHING in the pending????? This is just SO WRONG! I will make sure to let everyone I know to NEVER do bussiness with this bank EVER! We are going to a credit union! Are there any pending lawsuits??

I know exactly what you are talking about. I left this bank and joined a local credit union, a huge improvement over TD. There is legislation in congress addressing bank's overdraft practices. Banks make BILLIOND annually on these ripoffs.

Now TD Banknorth charges an overdraft fee for ***pending transactions*** that are charged to your account, regardless of when they actually post! I had a transaction that appeared as pending on April 29th, didn't actually post to my account until May 1st. Also, on April 30th my paycheck was direct deposited to my account, so there was never a negative balance. Yet that didn't stop Banknorth from charging me a $30 overdraft fee on April 30th! When I contacted their customer service department to complain, they said an "insert" was sent out in January. However, after an exhaustive search, I was unable to find any information about this new policy on their website. This is yet another way for the greedy banks to rip off decent, hardworking people!
